SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team won the Doug Watts Open Saturday at Edinboro to kick off the 2024 season.

The Rock posted a team score of 26 points to run away with the team victory. Daemen took second with 84 points, followed by Edinboro with 101, Seton Hill with 102 and Lake Erie with 119.

Troy Hart led the individual efforts with a second place showing after covering the 6,000-meter course in 19:30. Freshman
Eli Schreiber was fourth in 19:56 in his collegiate debut and
Devon Navaroli was fifth in 20:03 to give SRU three runners in the top five.

Michael Novak took seventh in 20:15 and
Michael Gauntner was eighth in 20:22 as The Rock put all five scorers in the top eight positions.

Anthony Robare was 10th in 20:36 and
John Juszynski was 11th in 20:43 to round out the top seven finishers.

Slippery Rock put 10 runners in the top 15 with
Brady Hoffman finishing 12th (20:45),
Ryan Czechowski taking 13th (20:51) and
Tucker Davis finishing 15th (20:55).

Slippery Rock will take next week off before returning to action Sept. 21 at the YSU Alumni Invite hosted by Youngstown State.
