LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team took fifth at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships Saturday from the West Branch XC Course at Lock Haven University.

The Rock bounced back from the PSAC Championships two weeks ago where they finished fourth and were the second PSAC team in the results Saturday. Davis & Elkins claimed the title with 40 points. Shippensburg took second with 45 points and Charleston was third with 81 points to round out the three teams that qualified for the National Championships. Concord edged SRU by three points to take fourth with 188 points with The Rock finishing fifth with 191 points. A total of 21 teams recorded a score in the meet.

Slippery Rock was paced by Troy Hart, who earned his third straight All-Region honor with an 11th place finish after covering the 10,000-meter course in 30:26.1. Hart was the third individual finisher not on one of the qualifying teams, just missing the automatic NCAA qualifying spot by five seconds. He still has a chance to qualify as the NCAA will select additional at-large qualifiers next week. If the NCAA adds any runners from the Atlantic Region, Hart would be the first to get in.

Devon Navaroli narrowly missed out on the All-Region team with a 28th place showing in 31:22, coming up just three spots short of the All-Region cutoff. He closed his career with four straight top 45 finishes at the regional meet.

John Juszynski placed 36th as the third SRU scorer after crossing the line in 31:37. Freshman Dom Bumblis ran a strong race to take 61st in 32:24 in his collegiate 10K debut and Ryan Czechowski rounded out the scorers in 66th place in 32:33.

Eli Schreiber was 68th in 32:37 and Brady Hoffman was 85th in 33:09 to round out the seven SRU entries.

Hart will find out early next week if he makes the cutoff and is invited to the National Championships Nov. 23 in Sacramento, California.

The rest of the SRU distance runners will now shift their focus to the 2024-25 indoor track & field season, which begins in early December.
