LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock opened PSAC play with a 69-56 win over West Chester University Nov. 22 before suffering a 62-59 double-overtime heartbreaker to Millersville University the next day with both games being played at Morrow Field House.

The Rock held a narrow edge over the Golden Rams for much of last Friday's competition until WCU eked back ahead by a pair of single-possession leads in the third quarter. SRU hit six of its nine field goal attempts in the fourth quarter and knocked down seven of its eight free throw attempts to pull away to its eventual 13-point win.

SRU and Millersville went into overtime after a 40-minute slugfest that saw the sides draw even at 42-42. The Marauders made a layup at the buzzer that forced a second overtime period, a five-minute session in which Millersville finished the game on an 8-0 run to fight back against a five-point SRU advantage and claim a three-point road win.

LEADING THE ROCK
Regan Atkins leads Slippery Rock's offense with 13.3 points per game, having tallied a team-high 80 points through the opening six games of the season. Tahmala Thorpe joins her in double figures with 10.7 points per game.

Sophia Hook has come off the bench in all six games this year but has provided 9.2 points per game, ranking third on the roster. Kayley Joseph-Bernard's 8.2 points, Alyssa Gillin's 7.0 points and Brooklyn Jones' 6.5 points per game round out a well-balanced starting lineup for Slippery Rock.

Mairan Haggerty (5.2 PPG) and Rebecca Goetz (4.3 PPG) have been key contributors off the bench as well, both having made appearances in all six games thus far.

Goetz has made 72.2 percent of her shots from the field, hitting 13 of 18 field goal attempts. Joseph-Bernard (21-of-42) and Deryn Moye (5-of-10) are both shooting 50 percent on the year, while Atkins continues to impress with 45.9 percent shooting (28-of-61).

Atkins has been the team's greatest asset from the 3-point perimeter, going 9-for-18 behind the arc (.500). Hook has made nine of her last 10 free throws for a team-leading 80.0 percent rate at the stripe (12-of-15).

Atkins also leads Slippery Rock in the rebounding department with 8.5 boards per game. Joseph-Bernard is right behind her with 8.3 rebounds per game. Goetz has spearheaded SRU's offensive rebounding with a team-high 14 boards while on the attack. Goetz averages 4.0 rebounds overall, third on the team.

Joseph-Bernard has found more scorers than anyone else for Slippery Rock with a squad-best 26 assists. She also leads The Rock with eight steals, while Atkins sits atop the team's stat sheet with six blocks.

COMING OFF A MARATHON
Slippery Rock played 90 minutes of basketball within a 24-hour span last weekend, defeating WCU in regulation before falling to Millersville in double overtime in a game that began 22 hours after SRU tipped off with West Chester.

Following a team-high 48 minutes on the court against the Marauders, Atkins now ranks fourth in the PSAC with an average of 35.4 minutes per game.

SRU is now 5-4 in its last nine overtime appearances. Its game with Millersville marked The Rock's first trek into double overtime since a loss at Indiana University (Pa.) Feb. 14, 2022.

The Rock are 3-0 in their last three non-conference overtime games. SRU has not dropped a non-conference competition in overtime since falling to West Liberty University in the 2005-06 season.

SHARING THE ROCK
Slippery Rock ranks second in the PSAC with 15.5 assists per game, led by Joseph-Bernard's 4.3 assists per game – an average that ranks third individually throughout the conference.

Slippery Rock makes up three of the top 24 spots in the PSAC in total assists:

3. Joseph-Bernard – 26 assists
14. Thorpe – 18 assists
24. Atkins – 15 assists

Joseph-Bernard's 26 assists also stack up 27th nationally throughout all of Division II women's basketball.

TAHMALA ON A TEAR
Thorpe scored 29 combined points in SRU's two PSAC crossover games last weekend, setting a new career-high with 17 points against West Chester and adding 12 points to SRU's total versus Millersville.

The graduate transfer from Mississauga, Ontario has made 11 of her last 25 field goal attempts, shooting 44.0 percent in the last three games.

SHOOTING TWO
Slippery Rock has averaged 17 made free throws per game in each of its last three outings. More recently, The Rock converted 82.1 percent of their free throw attempts in their last two games combined (32-of-39).

Hook has gone 12-for-15 at the line this season (80.0 percent) to lead SRU's high-volume free-throw shooters ahead of Thorpe's 18-of-24 showing (75.0 percent). Joseph-Bernard (7-of-8, .875) and Gillin (5-of-6, .833) have both missed just one free throw attempt on the year, while Kaylin Venick went 2-for-2 against West Chester for a perfect start this season.

FORCING TURNOVERS
SRU has forced at least 20 turnovers in three of its six games this year including a season-high 21 forced turnovers against Millersville. That defensive performance marked the most forced turnovers in a game by Slippery Rock since its 49-32 win over Shippensburg University a year ago that included 23 turnovers by the Raiders.

1.3 steals per game from Joseph-Bernard leads the way for Slippery Rock through half a dozen games.

STILL SHOOTING GREAT FROM THE FIELD
While Slippery Rock's five-game streak of shooting at least 43 percent from the field to start the 2024-25 campaign ended against Millersville, SRU still averages a 44.2 percent field goal clip that is high enough to rank third in the PSAC and 49th nationwide in D-II.

The Rock have seven players shooting above 44 percent overall, led by Goetz with a 13-of-18 field goal rate (72.2 percent). Those players – Atkins, Gillin, Goetz, Haggerty, Joseph-Bernard, Moye and Thorpe – have combined for 111 made shots in 237 attempts (46.8 percent).

That group has also comprised 73.8 percent of Slippery Rock's total scoring this season (111-of-237).

THREATENING FROM DISTANCE, TOO
The Rock have rattled off at least 34 percent from 3-point range in four of their six games including three showings of 40 percent or greater. On the season, Slippery Rock ranks second in the PSAC with a 33.9 cumulative 3-point percentage.

Atkins leads Slippery Rock's 3-point efforts having converted nine of her 18 attempts (.500). Jones and Thorpe are both shooting 37.5 percent from the perimeter, each 6-of-16 on the season.

A DEFENSIVE DUO
While Atkins leads SRU with 6.5 defensive rebounds per game, Joseph-Bernard ranks barely behind her with 6.2 defensive boards per game – those averages rank third and fifth in the entire PSAC respectively.

Atkins and Joseph-Bernard have additionally combined for nine of Slippery Rock's 19 blocks (47.4 percent) and 11 of SRU's 33 steals (33.3 percent).

THE ROCK vs. THE G-MAC
Slippery Rock has won four of its last seven games against Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponents, defeating Malone University and Ursuline College in both 2021 and 2022.

A win over Tiffin would mark SRU's 21st all-time win against an opponent currently playing in the G-MAC. The Rock already faced Malone earlier this season, dropping an 80-65 home-opening decision. SRU will round out its countable non-conference slate with a matchup against another G-MAC team in Lake Erie College 1 p.m. Saturday at Morrow Field House.

ROCK STARS OF RECENT
• Thorpe's career-high 17 points against West Chester broke a previous record of 13 against Davis & Elkins College. She got to 17 thanks in part to a 6-of-6 effort at the free throw line, another career-high for her.

• In a game that featured her first steal of the season, Gillin surpassed 100 career points against West Chester. She has since increased that total to 108.
