SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will feature the 46th all-time meeting between The Rock and the Vulcans, a series that Slippery Rock owns a 30-11-4 record in.

On top of a 16-game winning streak from 1996-2007, The Rock have only lost once to Cal in the teams' 11 meetings since 2015. SRU is 8-1-2 in those matchups but just 1-1-2 since 2022.

Slippery Rock holds a 15-6 advantage against Cal when playing at home, not having lost at James Egli Field to the Vulcans since 2012. California's 3-1 road win at SRU in 2022 was played at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SRU glided to a 2-0 win over the Vulcans last year at home with goals by Libby Zacharyasz (25') and Maddie DeLucio (43'). Slippery Rock outshot Cal, 15-5, while Leah Allman only needed to make one save to keep a perfect two-game career record of always posting a shutout against the Vulcans.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock didn't get a win Oct. 2 but can safely say it upset the No. 5 Golden Knights of Gannon University by playing to a 1-1 draw at James Egli Field.

Sydney Patrick headed in a cross from Olivia Yoder in the 53rd minute to give Slippery Rock a 1-0 advantage. The Rock then had to shift their play defensively as Gannon fired 12 of the game's next 13 shots, including an equalizer in the 81st minute. Allman's heroics were captured in the box score by earning five saves.

Gannon came away with a 14-9 advantage in shots despite being outshot through the first half, 6-1. GU also had an 8-3 lead in corner kicks, while both teams took six shots on goal.

LEADING THE ROCK
Patrick became the first SRU player to break into double digits with 11 points on the year. Patrick's tally has come from two goals and seven assists. Bailey McGee's three goals and three assists that were all produced within a two-game span give her nine points.

Morgan Sarver enters the weekend with eight points as Slippery Rock's leading goalscorer with four. Maddie DeLucio has recorded six points on two goals and two assists, while three players have four points: Yoder and Sophia Palermo have both scored once and assisted twice, while Zacharyasz has scored twice in 2024.

Faith Diffenbacher and Skylar Munnikhuysen both have one goal for two points, joining Ava Balazentis who has two assists on the year. Kierstyn Maxey and Sydney Smith round out the dozen players with points with one assist apiece.

Sarver is the team's leading shot-taker with 24, 10 of which have gone to goal. Patrick also has 10 shots on goal but from just 13 total shot attempts. Zacharyasz is one overall shot behind Sarver with 23, seven of which have landed on frame.

Seven players have taken at least 10 shots this year, with 12 coming from both DeLucio and Yoder, 11 off the foot of Palermo and 10 by McGee. Eight of Palermo's 11 total shots have been on target, ranking third on the roster.

DEFENSE STANDING TALL
SRU's defense, which has been led by Diffenbacher, Smith, Zacharyasz and Nina King, is coming off one of its best performances of the season after tying No. 5 Gannon, 1-1.

Gannon came into the game ranking sixth nationally in Division II with 20.3 shots per game, having scored 11 of its 14 total goals in the first half. Through 45 minutes, not only did Slippery Rock hold the Golden Knights scoreless, but Gannon had taken just one shot through the first half as well.

While SRU did not come away with the win, the draw against Gannon marked Slippery Rock's best result against a top-five opponent in eight years. The draw could also prove vital down the stretch in a postseason conversation.

HEROICS IN NET
Allman made five saves against Gannon and now has a 1-0-1 career record in net against nationally ranked opponents.

The sophomore goalkeeper will look for her fourth shutout of the season Saturday, bringing a GAA of 1.00 and a save percentage of .805 that ranks eighth in the PSAC.

SYD STANDING OUT NATIONALLY
Patrick has now tallied at least two points in each of SRU's last three games, ranking second in both the nation and the PSAC in assists. Patrick has produced seven helpers on the season which computes to 0.9 assists per game. West Chester University's Faith Matter has tallied eight assists on the year, leading Division II.

Patrick is tied for third nationally when Divisions I and II are combined with 0.9 assists per game, trailing only Sarah Schupansky of the University of Pittsburgh, who has given the Panthers 1.1 assists per game by passing to 13 scorers in 12 games.

A NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCE
Patrick is the first PSAC player to score against Gannon since WCU's Matter tallied a 77th-minute goal that forced overtime in last year's NCAA Division II Round of 16. Patrick's goal also gave GU just its second deficit of the year. The No. 20 University of Charleston scored against Gannon 1:15 into the 2024 season but ended up falling to the Golden Knights, 3-1.

Slippery Rock has scored the most recent four regular season goals against Gannon, dating back to Ashley Rea's second-half hat trick over the Golden Knights in last year's regular season finale.

SRU also became the first team to take as many shots on goal as Gannon (6-6) since Charleston matched Gannon at six shots on target apiece in last season's Division II Atlantic Regional semifinal.

HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE
Slippery Rock is now unbeaten in its last 14 straight games at James Egli Field, 8-0-6 since Sept. 28, 2022 – coincidentally, the game that started this streak was SRU's inaugural Bobby McGraw Memorial Game, a matchup against Clarion that ended in a 4-0 victory.

AND TIES, TOO
The Rock have played to three draws this season, already matching its number of ties last year (12-4-3). SRU has only ended up with more than three draws in a single season twice before – eight in 2022 (7-4-8) and five in 2010 (13-3-5).

HELPING ONE ANOTHER OUT
Slippery Rock leads the PSAC and is tied for fifth in Division II with 2.5 assists per game:

Team assists per game in Division II:
1. Maryville (Mo.) (3.43)
2. Columbus State (3.00)
3. Cal Poly Pomona (2.86)
4. Clayton State (2.75)
T5. Slippery Rock (2.50)
T5. UNC Pembroke (2.50)

While Patrick's seven assists certainly bolster SRU's team total of 20 assists, McGee also ranks inside the top 10 conference-wide in ninth with 0.4 assists per game.

NEXT WOMAN UP
Dermotta and Yoder continue to be proven assets to SRU's attack despite coming off the bench in each of the eight games this season.

Yoder has taken 12 shots this year, tied for fourth on the roster despite playing 47.6 minutes per game. She has come away from each of the last three games with at least one point, scoring at Edinboro and getting an assist against Clarion and Gannon.

Dermotta has placed six of her nine total shots on frame, taking at least one shot in all but two games this year. The senior from Rillton, Pennsylvania played a pivotal 36 minutes against Gannon, finding herself winning several battles for the ball with GU defenders.

COMING OFF RANKED SUCCESS
Slippery Rock has now won five of its last six games against nationally ranked opponents including the last four in a row. Additionally, The Rock's season-opening 1-1 draw at Shepherd University is proving to be increasingly impressive, as the Rams are now ranked No. 18 in Division II, leading the PSAC East with a 5-0-1 conference record.

HALFWAY THERE
Slippery Rock will ascend the apex of its season Saturday by getting to the halfway point in the 17-game regular season. A win or tie guarantees SRU's second straight year of holding above .500 halfway through the regular season. The Rock were 5-3-1 last year and 2-2-5 at the midway marker in 2022.

RECORD WATCH
Patrick and Sarver have both solidified themselves in the top 15 all-time in shots attempted. Patrick ranks 15th in SRU history with 114, while Sarver is 10th with 136 – just one away from Rea's 137 career shots in ninth.

With 56 points, Patrick is now tied for 17th all-time with Lauren Steele. She is eight points out of the top 10, guarded by Jen Canucci and Beth Kimball with 64.

Allman has now firmly entered the top 10 in all-time SRU saves with 81, four behind Melinda Swan's 85 in ninth.

Head coach Giegucz picked up her 98th win at Slippery Rock at Clarion, closing in on her 100th win as SRU's head coach. Giegucz, who was the head coach at Division III Northland College in 2014, earned her 100th career win last season.

CALIFORNIA SCOUTING REPORT
The Vulcans have seen their share of the PSAC West schedule produce a wide variety of results. Their highlight of the year has undoubtedly come from a 0-0 draw with No. 2 Gannon Sept. 28, a match that was sandwiched by 1-0 losses to Pitt-Johnstown and Indiana University (Pa.).

As a result of those three games, Cal enters Saturday looking for its first goal since a 3-0 home win against Clarion Sept. 21.

Cal ranks last in the PSAC with 5.4 shots per game but 15th in Division II in shot accuracy, making the most of the opportunities by putting 61.2 percent of attempts on net. True freshman from Ornskoldsvik, Sweden Ida Zakrisson has been one of Cal's top options offensively, aiding the Vulcans with two goals and an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Ouimet is back to lead the Vulcans defense, accruing three shutouts on the year and bringing a GAA of 0.89 and a save percentage of .784 to Saturday's PSAC West fixture.

LOOKING AHEAD
Slippery Rock will cap a three-game homestand by hosting Ashland University in a non-conference battle 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Ashland ranked eighth nationally in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll.
