Kansas City, Mo. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team moved up two spots to No. 23 in the Division II national rankings when the United Soccer Coaches updated its poll on Tuesday.
This is the first time The Rock occupies a spot in the national rankings for consecutive weeks since 2014. This weeks national poll included results through Nov. 9.
Along with Slippery Rock, No. 9 Gannon University and No. 15 West Chester University are the only other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team in the national poll this week.
Slippery Rock was ranked third of the nine teams from the Atlantic Region to be listed under consideration for postseason play when the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee announced its second set of Regional Rankings last week.
While The Rock's national ranking is a justified sign of respect for the program, the regional rankings will ultimately be used to determine which teams from each of the eight NCAA regions will qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Atlantic Region has seven spots in the NCAA Tournament this season as the conference champions from the PSAC and the Mountain East Conference will earn automatic berths in addition to five at-large selections. The final regional rankings will be released Wednesday before the national tournament selection show 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17.
SRU is looking to earn its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2019. To do so, The Rock will need to earn on of the five at-large bids in the Atlantic Region after its PSAC quarterfinals loss to Millersville.
