NCAA Regional Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS – The 23rd-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team dropped three spots to sixth in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee announced the final public list of NCAA Regional Rankings Wednesday.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are the only rankings that matter in terms of selecting which teams from each of the eight NCAA regions qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division II Tournament.
Â
The Division II women's soccer playoff field features 56 teams from across the nation, with each region receiving a pre-determined amount of berths based on access ratio.
Â
The Atlantic Region has seven spots in the NCAA Tournament this season with the conference tournament champions from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and the Mountain East Conference earning automatic berths in addition to five at-large selections.
Â
This week's rankings include six teams from the PSAC and three from the MEC. Inside the PSAC, there were three schools in the latest rankings from both divisions.
West Chester was slotted first in the Atlantic Region followed by Gannon, Shepherd, Kutztown, West Virginia State, The Rock, Indiana (Pa.), Fairmont State and Concord.
Â
The NCAA Committee uses a plethora of data to determine the regional rankings, including the win-loss records, a weighted strength of schedule, wins against teams above .500, multiple performance indicator metrics that weigh the quality of wins and losses, head-to-head competition and more. The NCAA also generates a "performance indicator" score for each team that includes much of the data mentioned above and still uses the "Rating Percentage Index" (RPI) as a metric to determine the strength of each team.
Â
This week's rankings include only contests through Nov. 9 and do not include the PSAC quarterfinal results from Tuesday. Slippery Rock owned a 12-3-1 overall record in the rankings when the data was taken. SRU has the seventh-best performance indicator score (18.188) among all teams in the region. The six teams ahead of SRU in the metric are West Chester (19.882), Gannon (19.778), West Virginia State (18.737), Kutztown (18.438), Shepherd (18.267) and Fairmont State (18.222). SRU has the fifth highest in-region RPI (.590) behind WCU (.636), Gannon (.613), Shepherd (.596) and Kutztown (.595).
In terms of on-field results against teams in this week's Atlantic Region rankings, Slippery Rock is 2-1-1 after going 0-1-1 versus Gannon and sweeping a pair of games in the season series against IUP.
The Rock are looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. Slippery Rock was a staple in the NCAA Tournament under current head coachÂ
Noreen Herlihy during her first stint at SRU. She led the program to the national playoffs nine times between 2001 and 2013.

The NCAA will announce the full playoff field in a live video selection show Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. at
