Rock drops PSAC quarterfinal tilt vs. Millersville

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team dropped its PSAC Tournament quarterfinal matchup with Millersville, 4-0, Tuesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team dropped its PSAC Tournament quarterfinal matchup with Millersville University, 4-0, Tuesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
Slippery Rock entered the day ranked 25th in the nation, before moving up two spots to No. 23 when the rankings were released during today's game.  
 
With the loss, Slippery Rock dropped to 12-4-1 overall, suffering its first loss since Oct. 1 at No. 9 Gannon. Millersville improved to 9-6-3 on the season and moves onto the PSAC Tournament semifinals to play the winner of Indiana University (Pa.) and Kutztown University.
 
On Wednesday, Slippery Rock will find out its current spot in the Atlantic Region when the latest rankings are released before the final selections for the NCAA Tournament are made 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17.
 
Slippery Rock is looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. To do so, The Rock must earn one of the five at-large bids in the Atlantic Region.
 
Millersville scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes, via Lia Francis and a brace from Aubrey Strohecker. The Marauders added on one more marker in the second half from Isabel Coy.

Abby Paterline and Marissa Salisbury led The Rock with three shots apiece. Lilia Battalini and Sophia Palermo took two shots each, while Libby Zacharyasz, Bailey McGee, Lillian Snyder and Kierstyn Maxey all took one shot to round out the shot takers for SRU.
 
Leah Allman made five saves for Slippery Rock in the loss.
 
If Slippery Rock is chosen for the NCAA Tournament, its first-round game will be Nov. 21 at a location and against an opponent yet to be determined.

The PSAC announced its annual award winners today. Noreen Herlihy was named the Western Division Coach of the Year, while Zacahryasz, Palermo, Salisbury, Allman, Sydney Smith and Kailyn Schulte were selected to All-PSAC teams.
