MEN'S QUICK PREVIEW
The Rock will send 29 men to Youngstown Friday to compete in 13 individual events and one relay.
Â
The Rock men have competed just once so far this season and it was all the way back on the first weekend of December. At that meet, two SRU throwers posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks to lead the way, headlined by
Joshua Gose with a shot put mark of 16.80m. That mark still ranks No. 2 in the PSAC and No. 16 among all throwers in Division II.
Joshua VanDeMark landed a weight throw performance of 18.19 meters, which ranks No. 2 in the PSAC and No. 23 in Division II.
Â
Slippery Rock has three men that lead the PSAC this season in their respective events, including a pair of freshmen in
Kadin Johnson in the 400-meter dash (50.13) and
Matthew Crow in the 60-meter hurdles (8.63).
Dan Hyatt also leads the PSAC in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.50 meters.
Â
AJ Virata enters this weekend ranked second in the PSAC in the 200-meter dash (22.32) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.00), while
Bryan Dworek ranks second in the long jump (7.02m) and fifth in the 200m (22.39).
Â
Another athlete to keep an eye on is
John Eakin in the shot put. Eakin, who set the SRU outdoor record in the event last spring, sits No. 3 in the PSAC at 16.23 meters this winter.
Â
SRU will also welcome a host of distance runners to the indoor roster as most of the distance squad did not compete back in December.
Shannon Dooley (800m) will lead the mid-distance entries, while
Ethan Brentham,
Troy Hart and
Devon Navaroli will all tackle the 3,000m run Friday.
