EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's indoor track and field team sits in third place after the first day of action at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Edinboro University.

Edinboro racked up points in a pair of distance events Saturday to move into the team lead after the first day of competition with 39 points. A total of six teams scored at least 20 points on the first day of the two-day meet, setting up an exciting final day of action Sunday. Millersville sits second with 30 points, followed by SRU in third with 29 points. Kutztown is fourth with 23 points and Cal U and Bloomsburg are tied for fifth with 20 points each.

Slippery Rock got two All-PSAC finishes from its women on Saturday with
Marianne Abdalah taking second in the 5,000-meter run and
Jena Reinheimer finishing third in the weight throw.

Abdalah took 16 seconds off her indoor-best and clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:21 in the 5,000m to open her championship weekend. She will attempt the distance double and will come back in the 3,000-meter run Sunday.

Reinheimer picked up six points in the team standings with a throw of 16.45 meters in the weight throw to take third place.
Natasha Davis also picked up a point in the event with an eighth-place finish and a mark of 15.20 meters.

Samantha Gilbert scored three points for The Rock with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.35 meters.

SRU got seven points in the pole vault with
Jamie Macecevic placing fifth and
Kendall Grossman finishing sixth. They both cleared 3.65 meters, which was the same height as the third-place finisher, but finished lower in the standings based on number of misses.

The final individual points of the day came in the pentathlon, where
Dani MacBeth finished in sixth place with a score of 2,923 points to earn three points in the team standings.
Lorna Speigle ran a terrific 800-meter race to end the day and finished in a tie for eighth with 2,805 points, but lost the tiebreaker to end up ninth in the final standings.

The last point of the day for SRU came from the distance medley relay team of
Lexie Firment,
Madison Olsen,
Allison Rennette and
Anna Igims, which placed eighth in 12:54.88.

In addition to the six event finals that took place Saturday, a number of preliminary rounds took place on the track to qualify athletes for Sunday's final rounds.

The Rock got two athletes through to the 60-meter finals with
Samantha Gilbert posting the fifth-best time at 7.87 seconds and
Rayna Stevenson posting the seventh-best time at 7.90 seconds.

Morgan Donatelli advanced to the finals in both the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She won her heat in the 400m and put up the second-best time in the prelims at 57.53 seconds. She also recorded the fifth-best 200m time at 25.90 seconds.

The only prelim SRU did not get an athlete through to the finals in was the 60-meter hurdles, where
Chaley Younkin was ninth in the prelims at 9.41 seconds, just off the final qualifying mark of 9.39 seconds.

Competition will resume Sunday at 11:30 a.m. for the final day of action, where 11 more event finals will determine the team title.
