MEN'S PREVIEW
The Rock will be one of four NCAA Division II teams competing this weekend that are currently ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic Region. They'll be joined by No. 3 Concord, No. 7 West Liberty and No. 9 Indiana (Pa.) in what should prove to be a good measuring stick for where those squads are entering championship season.
Â
Slippery Rock took last week off and has not competed since winning the Carnegie Mellon Invitational back on Oct. 8. Â
Â
Ethan Brentham,
Troy Hart and
Shannon Dooley all finished within eight seconds of each other to lead SRU in that race. Those three have been the top scorers for SRU all fall, followed closely by
Devon Navaroli, who has been in the top four scorers consistently. The fifth scoring spot has seen some fluctuation for SRU this fall with freshmen
John Juszynski and
Michael Novak taking that spot in the last two outings.
Â
Ryan Corbitt,
Noah Johnson,
Tucker Davis and
Logan Hogue will also be competing to break into that fifth scoring spot as they round out the SRU lineup Saturday. Â
Â
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
Slippery Rock is one of three Atlantic Region ranked teams competing this weekend and headlines that trio as the No. 2 ranked team in the latest regional rankings. The Rock will be joined by No. 9 Clarion and No. 10 California (Pa.).
Â
SRU will have nearly its full roster competing Saturday with 18 women entered in the race. Like the men, The Rock women have also not competed since posting an impressive win at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Oct. 8.
Â
The Slippery Rock lineup is headlined by course record holder
Marianne Abdalah, who set the course's fastest time of 22:26 on her way to winning the 2021 Bill Lennox Invitational.
Â
Abdalah has been the top scorer for SRU in every meet she has competed in this season. She has been joined in the scoring lineup by
Anna Igims and
Madison Murtland in each race they have competed in this fall as well. Two freshmen,
Ruthie Hughes and
Jennifer Cichra, rounded out the scorers for SRU two weeks ago in the win at Carnegie Mellon.
Â
The Rock has also seen
Steph Keelon,
Katie Plassio and
Skye Hackathorn all earn scoring finishes this season.
Â
Slippery Rock's lineup Saturday is expected to also feature
Hannah Burgoon,
Morgan Dennison,
Maddie Grillo,
Chelsea Hunt,
Jordan Klick,
Madison Koveloski,
Allison Rennette,
Marie Scarpa,
Lydia Valeriano and
Lexie Wyant.
Â
UP NEXT
Slippery Rock will take next weekend off before traveling to Mansfield University Nov. 5 to compete in the PSAC Championships. The Rock will then take another week off before returning to Mansfield Nov. 19 to compete in the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships. If SRU qualifies as a team or has any individual qualifiers in that race, those student-athletes will compete in the National Championships Dec. 2 in Seattle, Washington.
