Rock set to host PSAC West match against Mercyhurst

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team will host PSAC West opponent Mercyhurst 12 p.m. Saturday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent Mercyhurst University 12 p.m. Saturday at James Egli Field.

LAST MEETING
The Rock pulled out a 2-1 victory over Mercyhurst Oct. 23, 2019. Rachel Edge scored her 11th goal of the season and Tyler Spence added her fifth score of 2019 in a playoff-clinching 2-1 victory for Slippery Rock.

Mercyhurst leads the all-time series over The Rock 14-12-2. SRU has been able to come away with eight victories and two ties in the last 10 meetings with the Lakers.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT: The Rock recorded its fourth consecutive victory in a 4-1 result, on the road, over Seton Hill. Edge led the offense with two goals and an assist, Kayla Swope collected a goal and pair of assists as well while Georgia Nagucki netted a goal of her own.
 
WIN, WIN, WIN: With the win over Seton Hill, Slippery Rock secured its fourth consecutive victory this season, while also remaining undefeated through five matches. A win or tie against the Lakers will mark the first season since 2006 The Rock remained undefeated through their first six matches.
 
TOTAL OFFENSE: Leading the way for SRU's offensive attack are Edge and Swope. With her two goals against the Griffins, Edge marked her fifth consecutive game having scored a goal this season. She now leads the PSAC in goals (6) and points (15).
 
Edge also moves up in the SRU career rankings to 12th in points (62) and 10th in goals (22). Swopes efforts this season have put her first in the PSAC in assists (5) and shots on goal (14) as well as second in the conference in points (13).
 
Rounding out SRU's goal scorers are Jordyn Minda with two, followed by, Nagucki, Faith Diffenbacher, Sydney Patrick, Ashley Rea and Olivia Yoder all with one goal apiece.
 
Adding to The Rock's offensive push are a strong group of players who have assisted on at least one goal. Swope (5) and Edge (3) lead the charge followed by Patrick (2) while Mascaro, Nagucki, Nina King, Megan Sikora and Reagan Reeves have all tallied one apiece.
 
KEEPER COUNT: Emma Yoder continues a strong senior showing leading the PSAC save percentage at .826. In five starts she has now tallied 19 saves with a .826 save percentage and a 0.77 goals against average.
 
In the SRU career rankings, Yoder currently sits sixth in saves (128), fourth in save percentage (.848) and GAA (0.76) and sixth in most wins (23).
 
IT STARTS FROM THE TOP: Through five matches, Rock women's soccer head coach Jessica Giegucz is off to the best start of a season of her coaching career at The Rock. Her previous best five-game record at SRU is 4-1 in 2018 and 2019.
 
STANDINGS CHECK: The Rock currently shares the top spot in the PSAC West with Edinboro. Slippery Rock leads the conference in scoring average (3.40) and margin of victory (2.60).
 
AGAINST MERCYHURST: In previous meetings against the Lakers, Edge has scored a pair of goals and produced a pair of assists, Julia Mascaro tallied two assists as well while Minda has also been able to collect an assist.
 
When facing the Lakers, Yoder is 2-0 having made 10 saves and allowing three goals.
 
HOMESTAND: Since the reign of Giegucz began in 2015, SRU has recorded a 27-10-2 (.695) record at Egli Field, along with outscoring opponents 97-35 with 15 matches being shutouts.
