Rock set for weekend swing vs. Griffins and Crimson Hawks

The Slippery Rock field hockey team will play two games in as many days this weekend with non-conference contests Saturday at Seton Hill and Sunday vs. Indiana (Pa.).

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will play two games in as many days this weekend with non-conference contests Saturday at Seton Hill University and Sunday against Indiana University (Pa.).
 
Slippery Rock's game at Seton Hill is set for a 12 p.m. start Saturday while The Rock's home game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium against Indiana is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
 
COVID-19 FAN INFORMATION (MIHALIK-THOMPSON STADIUM)
• Fans should not attend any events if you are experiencing any symptoms or feeling ill.
• Masks are REQUIRED inside all buildings on the SRU campus, regardless of vaccination status.
• Fans are encouraged, but not currently required, to wear masks at SRU outdoor events.
• Fans are encouraged to social distance when possible at events.

Slippery Rock has won 14 consecutive games against Seton Hill to improve its all-time record against the Griffins to 15-5. Included in The Rock's all-time mark against SHU is a near perfect 7-1 record in games played at Seton Hill.
 
LAST MEETING
Kayla Ulrich scored two goals in addition to posting a pair of assists as part of a 4-3 Slippery Rock win on the road at Seton Hill on Oct. 29, 2019. Lauren Marks and Abby McKay both scored goals as well in the win.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The Crimson Hawks hold a 42-26-1 record against Slippery Rock in a series that dates back to 1972. However, SRU has won two of the last three games at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock played its first away game of the season as it defeated Frostburg State, 4-1, for the non-conference victory.
 
YOUTH MOVEMENT
Eight Slippery Rock underclassmen (freshmen or sophomores) have started at least one game for The Rock this season. Of the 11 teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, only Mansfield (12) has had more underclassmen start a game in 2021.
 
SECOND HALF SHUTDOWN
Slippery Rock has allowed just two second-half goals this season in addition to limiting the opposition to only 11 shot attempts (2.8 per game) and five penalty corners (1.3 per game) over the third and fourth quarters.
 
SPARKS NETS TWO GOALS
Leading the way for Slippery Rock in its three-goal win over Frostburg State was Katelyn Sparks, who registered two goals on three shots. For the season, Sparks has posted all six of her shot attempts on goal.
 
TRUBE LEADS THE WAY
Following another goal against Frostburg State, senior Jessie Trube enters the weekend leading The Rock in points (six), goals (three), total shots (18) and shots on goal (12). Trube goes into the Seton Hill game ranked third in the PSAC in shots on goal per game (3.0).
 
Trube's goal vs. FSU elevated her into a tie for 11th place on The Rock's career goals list at 16 along with Kailee Krupski (2014-17) and Allison Shade (2011-14).
 
Trube has one goal over her career against Seton Hill.
 
COLLIVER GETS ON THE BOARD
Leslie Colliver made her first collegiate shot count as the freshman from Stafford, Virginia scored her first collegiate goal in the Frostburg State game. Colliver has played in all four games this season including consecutive starts over The Rock's last two contests.
 
ISNER WITH ANOTHER ASSIST
Jordyn Isner setup Sparks' second goal during the Frostburg State game for what was her team-leading second assist of the season. Holly Stiller has The Rock's other assist so far this season.
 
BURKER PICKS UP CAREER WIN #2
Freshman Grace Burker was the goalie of record in the Frostburg State game. Burker has played all but one quarter in four starts this season; backup Hannah Nurse came on in the fourth quarter Wednesday.
 
Over 225 minutes of playing time, Burker has made 21 saves with a.778 save percentage and 1.60 goals against average. She ranks second in the PSAC in total saves, fourth in save percentage and fourth in saves per game (5.25).
 
With at least 12 games remaining in the season, Burker already ranks eighth in program history for wins by a freshman goalie. Amy Bricker holds the record with seven victories in 1991.
 
CONSISTENT CORE LINEUP
Slippery Rock's starting lineup has largely remained the same through the first quarter of the season as eight athletes have started all four games in Burker, Trube, Roland, Stiller, Kayla Del Vecchio, Samantha Karmonick, Addy Ross and Nadia Irving.
 
THE ROCK IN BACK-TO-BACKS
This weekend will mark the only time this season that Slippery Rock will play games in consecutive days. Dating back to the 2010 season, Slippery Rock is 10-7 (.588) on the second day of back-to-back games.

• Following a season-opening win against Frostburg State (2-1), Seton Hill has dropped non-conference tilts to Lindenwood (5-0), Newberry (5-0), Millersville (10-0) and Indiana (4-1).
 
• Jade Taylor has scored two of SHU's three goals this season with Haley Breeny also accounting for one as well in addition to assisting on a score.
 
• Shannon McCormac has logged 203:10 of a possible 300 minutes of playing time this season. She has made 52 saves with a .776 save percentage and a 4.43 GAA. Emma Jorgensen has appeared in four games (96:50), allowing 10 goals and making 14 saves (.583).

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON HAWKS
• IUP is a perfect 3-0 on the season with wins over Newberry (2-1), Lindenwood (3-1) and Seton Hill (4-1).
 
• The Crimson Hawks' high-powered offensive attack features seven players who have scored at least one goal including Shelby Harnish and Georgiana Chiavacci, who have scored two goals apiece. Chiavacci has also assisted on three of IUP's goals for a team-high seven points.
 
• Goalkeeper Amanda Zaner has played all but 10 minutes this season. She comes into Saunday's game with 18 saves, a .857 save percentage and a 1.05 GAA.
