SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team sits third in the team standings after two days of competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships from Shippensburg University.

Shippensburg is comfortably out front in the team race with 84 points and seven of the 21 events have been scored. East Stroudsburg sits second with 46.5 points, followed by SRU in third with 45.5 points. Kutztown is a distant fourth with 23.5 points, followed by Edinboro in fifth with 16 points.

The Rock picked up three All-PSAC finishes in individual events Friday, led by Jason Goodman earning his second straight PSAC title in the decathlon.

Goodman comfortably pulled away to repeat as the league champion with a score of 6,325 points after the 10 events of the decathlon, winning by just shy of 400 points. Kyle Adams had a strong two days to climb up to seventh place with 5,513 points to give SRU 12 points in the team standings.

The Rock also got All-PSAC finishes from Bryan Dworek in the long jump and Dan Hyatt in the pole vault.

Dworek led most of the competition with his mark of 6.98 meters until Seton Hill's Hunter Martin took the title on his final jump of the meet, bumping Dworek to a second place finish. Gavin Thomas took sixth with a leap of 6.71 meters as the duo picked up 11 points.

Hyatt took third in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.58 meters to score six points. Reese Burwell tied for fourth with a mark of 4.43 meters to score 4.5 points and give SRU 10.5 total points in the event.

Slippery Rock also picked up two points in the discus with Eric Schulz placing seventh with a mark of 44.85 meters.

The other events that took place Friday were mostly prelim races to set up Saturday's finals. The Rock qualified athletes in the 4x100-meter relay, the 110-meter hurdles, the 100-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles. The 200-meter dash prelims were canceled by heavy rains and lightning. All 200m runners will now run in a timed final Saturday.

Dworek anchored the relay with Parker Reed, Mitch Vleminckx and Jonathan Marfisi to win their heat in 42.51 seconds to qualify for the finals with the second fastest time. Dworek and Reed also qualified for the finals in the open 100-meter dash with Dworek posting the third best time at 10.90 seconds and Reed qualifying sixth in 10.98 seconds.

Zach Wise and Brenden Lewis each earned a spot in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles. Wise qualified fourth in 14.97 seconds, while Lewis was seventh in 15.59 seconds.

Gunner Coleman and Damion Reed Jr. both qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles. Coleman was the fifth fastest in the prelims in 57.08 seconds and Reed was eighth best at 57.52 seconds.

Competition resumes Saturday in the field events at 11 a.m. and on the track at 12:30 p.m. as the final 14 events will be contested.
