PUEBLO, Colo. – Slippery Rock University shot putter
Seaton Wozniak earned All-America honors to lead The Rock men's track & field team on the final day of the NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday from Colorado State University Pueblo.
Â
Wozniak was the lone SRU male competing Saturday on the final day of the competition after a trio of his men's track & field teammates competed over the opening two days.
Â
He closed out the meet by picking up second team All-America honors with a 10th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.39 meters (17' 0.75"). He just narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals and a chance at three more throws when he was bumped from the ninth position on the final throw of prelims by just three-quarters of an inch.
Â
The All-America finish marks the first of Wozniak's career and makes him the first SRU men's shot putter to place in the top 10 at nationals since Clint Bonetti took fifth in 1992.
Â
The Rock men finished the three-day championship with three All-Americans and four men that posted top 13 showings.
Drew Layton (7th in the pole vault) earned first team All-America honors, while
Kanye Thompson (10th in 100-meter dash) joined Wozniak in picking up second team All-America honors. Freshman
Logan Anderson capped the men's efforts with a 13th place showing in the decathlon.
Â
The Rock women also got All-America finishes from Anna Igims in the steeplechase and Isabella Bartoletti in the javelin as SRU finished the meet with five All-Americans total.
Â
Saturday marked the final competition for Slippery Rock Athletics during the 2024-25 academic year. The fall sport student-athletes will return to campus in early August before Sept. 4 marks the official opening date for the 2025-26 athletics season.
