ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team won seven events at the Behrend Invitational Sunday afternoon at Penn State Behrend.

The Rock were competing for the second time in the last four days after also hosting the SRU Invitational Thursday. Sunday's meet was the smallest of the season for Slippery Rock as the meet consisted mostly of SRU, Carnegie Mellon and Penn State Behrend, with a selection of club athletes from Mercyhurst and Gannon also competing.

The Rock picked up wins in two throwing events, two jumping events and three running events on the day.

Dylan Close had the top overall performance for Slippery Rock with his winning javelin throw of 57.39 meters.
Alec Morris added a second win in the throws when he took the top spot in the hammer with a mark of 51.01 meters.

Dan Hyatt won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.55 meters and
Bryan Dworek won the long jump with a leap of 6.88 meters to headline the performances from the jumpers.

On the track,
Zach Wise picked up a win in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.29 seconds and
Gunner Coleman won the 400-meter hurdles in 57.37 seconds to give The Rock wins in both hurdle races.

The final event win for SRU came in the 800-meter run, where
Troy Shattuck cruised to an easy win in 2:07.93 after winning his heat by nearly six full seconds.

Slippery Rock also picked up eight runner-up finishes Sunday, including
Parker Reed in the 200-meter dash (22.48 seconds),
Troy Hart in the 1,500-meter run (4:13.84),
Brenden Lewis in the 110-meter hurdles (15.77 seconds),
Damion Reed Jr. in the 400-meter hurdles (57.82 seconds),
Gavin Thomas in the long jump (6.58m),
Taye Lynch in the triple jump (12.60m),
Nate Marchand in the javelin (45.87m) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Reed, Dworek,
Jonathan Marfisi and
Mitch Vleminckx (42.93 seconds).

Slippery Rock will compete in two different meets next weekend as a final tune-up before the PSAC Championships May 6-8 at Shippensburg. The Rock will send many of its field event athletes to Carnegie Mellon next Friday, April 30, to compete in a dual-meet style Field Event Classic with CMU. The rest of The Rock team will travel to Windber High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania Saturday, May 1, for a meet hosted by Pitt-Johnstown.
