SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team took first place and
Marianne Abdalah won the individual title at the Bill Lennox Invite hosted by The Rock Saturday at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

The Rock claimed the team title with 45 points after placing three runners in the top 10 and all five scorers in the top 17. Gannon finished second with 65 points, followed by Cal U in third with 68 points. Youngstown State was fourth with 73 points, followed by Fairmont State in fifth with 158 points. Lake Erie (160), Frostburg State (176) and Westminster (185) rounded out the team scorers.

Abdalah won her second overall race for The Rock this fall and was the top collegiate finisher for the third time in four outings. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 22:26, finishing 34 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Fairmont State.

Madison Murtland continued her strong fall season with a fifth place finish in 23:30 as The Rock's second scorer.
Katie Plassio was the third finisher for SRU in ninth place in 24:06.

Anna Igims was the fourth SRU runner across the line in 15th place in 24:33 and
Chelsea Hunt rounded out the scorers in 17th place in 24:42.

The Rock's top seven were capped by
Steph Keelon in 19th in 24:51 and
Kate Aldrich in 28th in 25:40.

Saturday marked Slippery Rock's lone home meet of the year and the last official home cross country meet in the career of head coach
John Papa, who announced this week that he will retire on June 3, 2022 after 35 years as the head cross country and track and field coach.

The meet also marked the final tune-up before championship season for Slippery Rock, which will take next weekend off before returning to action Friday, Oct. 22 at the PSAC Championships hosted by Kutztown.
