Rock to host Seton Hill for PSAC West matchup

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team will host Seton Hill 1 p.m. Wednesday for a PSAC Western Division home contest.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will host Seton Hill University 1 p.m. Wednesday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division home contest at James Egli Field.

LAST MEETING
The Rock fell on the road to Seton Hill 2-1 on goals by Sawyer Patrick at the 1:46 mark and Italia Biondi in the 57th minute.
 
Jordyn Minda netted a goal for The Rock in the ninth minute on a cross from Reagan Reeves to tie the game at 1-1, but that would be the only score for Slippery Rock in the one goal defeat. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock leads the all-time series 8-3-0 including winning eight straight matchups with the Griffins from 2008-17. The Rock have scored at least two goals in seven of the 11 games against Seton Hill including a 7-1 victory in 2011. Included in the eight wins is a perfect 5-0-0 record for The Rock at home.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• LAST TIME OUT – The Rock defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 4-0 on the road. Sofia Harrison started the scoring for Slippery Rock at the 3:33 mark with her second goal of 2019 followed by a Tyler Spence goal at the 42:39 mark.
 
SRU continued its scoring effort over the Mountain Cats when Shannon McIntyre added a goal in the 59th minute on a cross from Rachel Edge. Edge finished the scoring effort for The Rock when she finished a long pass from Megan Sikora to secure a 4-0 win on the road.
 
• TOUGH AT HOME – Slippery Rock has recorded a 5-0 record and outscored Seton Hill 17-2 all-time at home. Record last four years overall at home.

• ROCKIN' ON THE ROAD – After dropping the season opener at home to Walsh 1-0, Slippery Rock has recorded three straight wins on the road over No. 16 West Virginia Wesleyan College, Clarion University and Pitt-Johnstown.
 
The Rock have scored at least two goals in each of the three contests and SRU goalkeeper Emma Yoder has recorded two straight shutouts. The last time that Slippery Rock won three straight road games was in 2015 during a three-game road swing at Edinboro University, Lock Haven University and Seton Hill.
 
• EDGE OUT THE COMPETITION – Edge, a sophomore forward, leads Slippery Rock in several offensive categories through the first four games of 2019, ranking first in points (8), goals (3), total shots (14) and shots on goal (10). Edge is tied for first in assists (2) and ranks third in shot percentage (.500).
 
• MAKE ROOM FOR MINDA – Minda, the reigning PSAC Freshman of the Year, has caught fire offensively over the past three games for SRU. Minda has recorded four points on two goals with five shots on goal.
 
• PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Slippery Rock goalkeeper Emma Yoder garnered PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 8th-15th. The sophomore recorded back-to-back shutouts over Clarion and Pitt-Johnstown adding four saves on twelve shots faced. Yoder has a .889 save percentage along with a 0.50 GAA.
 
• SCORING MACHINE – The Rock have outscored opponents 9-2 to open the 2019 season. It's the second consecutive season that Slippery Rock has opened the season with a +7-scoring margin.
 
• PSAC LEADERS – SRU has several student-athletes near the top of the conference rankings for offense: Edge ranks tied for third in goals (3) and tied for second in points (8), Harrison sits in a tie for second in game-winning goals (2). 
 
• MILESTONE WATCH - Rock women's soccer head coach Jessica Griggs sits at just two wins away from 50 in her career at Slippery Rock. Griggs ranks second in Slippery Rock women's soccer program history in wins and is currently the fourth winningest coach among PSAC Western Division coaches behind only Colin Petersen (Gannon), Gary Kagiavas (Edinboro) and Adel Heder (Indiana). 

• ROUNDING OUT THE ATTACK - The potent offensive attack for Slippery Rock doesn't stop with Minda and Edge, with Sofia Harrison ranking second on the team with two goals followed by McIntyre and Tyler Spence with one goal apiece. The Rock have several student-athletes ranking near the top in assists in the PSAC. Barackman, McIntyre and Edge are tied for third in the conference with two assists apiece. 

THIS WEEK IN ROCK HISTORY
• Sept. 22, 1996 – Slippery Rock records a 12-0 victory at home against Pitt-Johnstown, marking the most goals scored in Rock women's soccer program history.
 
• Sept. 24, 2016 – Andi Felix scores a goal 15 seconds into the second half in a 1-0 win over Mansfield on the road. The goal marked the fastest second half goal in program history.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
• Last time out: Seton Hill won its first game of the 2019 season in a 4-2 home victory over Gannon. Biondi and Katie Kimmich provided the offense for the Griffins with each scoring two goals. SHU goalkeeper Elyza Pilatowski-Herzing recorded five saves on seven shots on goal faced.
 
• Seton Hill returns seven seniors for the 2019 campaign including Samathan Jackson, Amy Lynch, Biondi, Hope Creamer, Sawyer Patrick, Katie Kimmich and Pilatowski-Herzing. Biondi and Kimmich have matching stat lines for the Griffins, both having two goals and one assist through the first three games for Seton Hill. 
 
• In two starts in goal this season, Pilatowski-Herzing has recorded 12 saves with a 1.50 GAA and a .800 save percentage.
