EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team recorded 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, two NCAA provisional marks and won five events at the Edinboro Last Chance Invite Friday evening at Edinboro University.

Friday night's meet marked the final chance for SRU athletes to record a qualifying mark or improve on their seeding for the PSAC Championships, which will take place next Saturday and Sunday at Edinboro.

Both of the NCAA marks recorded by The Rock men Friday night came from JJ Ollio, who won the shot put and the weight throw with season-best performances in both events. He topped the field in the shot put with a toss of 16.97 meters and then won the weight throw with a career-best performance of 17.63 meters. Ollio was joined in reaching the PSAC standard in the shot put by John Eakin and Ryan Heller. Eakin placed third with a toss of 14.54 meters and Heller was fifth with a mark of 13.48 meters.

Slippery Rock also picked up a win the long jump with Jesse Romanchak recording a leap of 6.58 meters to round out the field event victories. Romanchak was joined in hitting a PSAC mark in the horizontal jumps by three SRU athletes in the triple jump. Jason Goodman led the way in second place with a leap of 13.29 meters. Mitch Vleminckx was third at 12.66 meters and Ethan McGinnis was fourth at 12.62 meters. Jakob Graff rounded out the PSAC qualifying efforts in the field with a fifth place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.15 meters.

The remaining two victories for SRU came on the track, where Collin Darby won the 200-meter dash in 22.47 seconds and Troy Shattuck claimed the 800-meter run in 1:59.77.

Darby also paced a total of five SRU sprinters to a PSAC mark in the 60-meter dash with a second place finish in 7.08 seconds. Nathan Kibbie matched his time to place third, while Parker Reed was fourth in 7.13 seconds, Liam Okal was fifth in 7.16 seconds and Isaac Moodie was eighth in 7.22 seconds. Kibbie also hit the PSAC standard in the 200-meter dash with a third place finish in 22.71 seconds.

The final PSAC mark of the night came in the 60-meter hurdles, where Zach Wise posted a second place finish in 8.61 seconds.

Slippery Rock will now turn its focus to the PSAC Championships next weekend, where the squad will look to bring home another trophy after placing second in the team standings in each of the last four years. It's been nine years since SRU failed to place in the top three at the indoor championship meet, dating back to a sixth place finish in 2010.
