Rock to host Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday

The Slippery Rock field hockey team will host Indiana (Pa.) 7 p.m. Wednesday for a PSAC game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will host a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game against Indiana (Pa.) 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

LAST MEETING
IUP's Sarah Zielinksi gave the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Savanna Robinson evened the score at the 26:08 mark. The score remained tied for much of the game, until a Selena West goal with less than two minutes left in regulation gave IUP a 2-1 lead and the eventual victory on Oct. 23, 2016.

Indiana owns the all-time series edge over Slippery Rock, 40-17-1. IUP has won the last three meetings, and 10 of the past 11 matchups dating back to 2011. In those 11 matchups, the Crimson Hawks have scored 23 goals (2.1 per game) and hold a 13 goal margin over The Rock.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT – The Rock defeated No. 3 West Chester, 4-3, in a PSAC road matchup at Vonnie Gros Field on Sept. 23. The two teams traded goals through the first 67 minutes of action before Kailee Krupski scored off an Abby McKay assist at the 67:07 mark. The Rock received goals from Krupski, Kayla Ulrich, Brittany Morgan and Allison Grant in the win.
 
STAIRWAY TO SEVEN? – Slippery Rock's win against West Chester was its sixth victory of the season, which matches its total from both the 2016 and 2015 seasons. If The Rock can collect its seventh win against IUP, it will be the first time the team has won seven or more games since 2014, when SRU finished the season 9-10. Slippery Rock also has the chance to record its first three game winning streak since the 2014 season with a win over Indiana.
 
SLIPPERY ROCK SCORER'S – The Rock has received goals from 10 players so far this year. Ulrich leads the team with six, followed by Morgan with four and Krupski with three. Grant, McKay, Courtney Page, Liz Wolfe, Hannah Downing, Allison Martin and Sam Geroski have all added one apiece.
 
A HELPING HAND – Eight players have also recorded assists for Slippery Rock. Ulrich, Page and Wolfe lead the team with two each, while McKay, Alyssa Castle, Brenna McGovern-Lind, Hannah Simone and Kayla Mack have all added one helper apiece.
 
SWITCHABLE STOPPERS – For a majority of Slippery Rock's nine games this season, SRU has implemented a system of starting goalkeeper Nicole Bream at the beginning of the game and subbing in Maddie Murphy for the second half. In nine games played (two starts), Murphy is 3-0 with 22 saves, a 0.96 goals against average and a .815 save percentage. Bream is 3-3 with 26 saves, a 1.85 goals against average and a .788 save percentage in seven starts.
 
A FRESHMAN TO FEAR – Ulrich has had an impressive first season for The Rock. Through nine games, she has cracked the top-five in five different SRU freshmen record categories. She ranks first in shots (39), first in shots on goal (31), second in goals (6), second in points (14) and is tied for fourth in assists (2).
 
KRUPSKI CAREER RECORDS – Krupski has been climbing up multiple career record book categories during her senior season. She currently ranks fourth in points per game (.60) and assists per game (.16), fifth in assists (10), sixth in goals per game (.22), is tied for eighth in points (38) and is tied for tenth in goals (14).
 
ROCK NATIONAL RANKINGS – As a team, Slippery Rock ranks sixth in Division II in defensive saves (5), seventh in save percentage (.815) and tenth in shutouts per game (.33). Individually, Murphy ranks fifth in save percentage (.815) and eighth in goals against average (.96) while Mack ranks sixth in defensive saves (3).

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON HAWKS
• IUP has received goals from eight players so far this season. Matti Reightler leads the team with five, followed by West with three. Madelyn Mullen and Kalista Gioglio have both recorded two goals, while Emma Smiley, Kimberly Kelly, Elizabeth Clemmer and Bryn Nelson have all added one apiece.
 
• Six players have also recorded assists for the Crimson Hawks. Reightler leads the team with four, followed by Mullen with two. West, Smiley, Kelly and Camen Weber have all added one helper of their own.
 
• Two goalkeepers have seen time at net for IUP. In eight starts, Alyssa Lerda is 4-4 with 49 saves, a 1.87 goals against average and a .778 save percentage. In one game played, Olivia Accardi has recorded six saves, a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage in 35 minutes of action.
