Rock takes winning streak to Mercyhurst

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Winners of three consecutive games, the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will look to continue its winning streak when it plays at Mercyhurst University 1 p.m. Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

The Lakers hold a 14-7-1 edge over The Rock all-time, but Slippery Rock has been in firm control of the series recently. SRU is 4-0-1 against Mercyhurst in the last five years and has not surrendered a goal to the Lakers since 2010.

Caitlin Binder scored two goals to lead The Rock to a convincing 4-0 victory against Mercyhurst Oct. 11, 2014. Andrea Felix added one goal and two assists as well in the win.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Last time out: Behind a pair of goals from Dara Demich, Slippery Rock extended its winning streak to three games with a 4-0 win against Indiana (Pa.).
 
• Slippery Rock has quickly established itself as one of the top offensive teams in the nation with a PSAC-best 18 goals, which also ranks 18th in the country. The Rock's defense has also been stellar with only five goals allowed, the third fewest in the conference.
 
• Leading The Rock attack has been Demich and Felix with matching stat lines of five goals and two assists. The duo ranks third in the PSAC in goals and fifth in points. Of the 17 PSAC teams, only Gannon, Edinboro and SRU have two players with at least five goals.
 
• With 55 career points, Felix is just two points away from passing former Rock great Lauren Steele for 12th in Rock history. 
 
• Binder and Allison Harbart each have two goals as well with quartet of Brooke Testa, Haley Burkholder, Mariah Varner and Julianna Esposito all adding one goal as well to round out The Rock's goal scorers.
 
• Binder, Demich, Felix and Tess Keeley are all tied for the team lead with two assists apiece.
 
• Rock goalkeeper Charlotte Elrod has played every minute for SRU this season and has compiled the third lowest goals against average in the PSAC at 0.83.
 
• A Rock victory would give Slippery Rock its best seven-game start to a season since 2012.
 
• Slippery Rock has only allowed one goal in the second half of games this season.
 
• Felix and Binder have produced some of their best games of their careers against the Lakers. Felix has tallied four goals and three assists while Binder has added two goals and three assists.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
• Last time out: Mercyhurst shut out East Stroudsburg in PSAC action, 2-0. Junior Carly Zimmerman and senior Allie Cornacchia each recorded their first goal of the season in the win.
 
• The Lakers begin the week ranked just 12th in the PSAC in goals scored (eight), but a respectable sixth in goals allowed (seven).
 
• Goalkeeper Kristen Koch has started five games for the Lakers, going 1-2-2 with a 1.26 goals against average, 24 saves (.774) and one shutout. Ellie McDougall started the ESU game and made two saves in the shutout victory.
 
• Having scored four goals and taken a team-high 17 shots, Kristina Roberti is the heart of Mercyhurst's attack.
 
• Four other Lakers have each scored one goal in 2015 including Testa, who has also been credited for a team-high two assists.
