SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action against Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday at 4 p.m. from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the contest fresh off a dramatic 2-1 upset of No. 5 East Stroudsburg on Homecoming Sunday, improving to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in PSAC action. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for The Rock, who had previously entered the national rankings at No. 10 after a 3-0 start to the season.

Indiana (Pa.) enters the match at 2-4 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Crimson Hawks opened the season ranked No. 9 in the NFHCA Preseason Poll, but dropped out of the rankings after starting the season 0-4. IUP has bounced back to win its last two games, including a 2-0 win over Kutztown in its most recent matchup last Saturday.

All-Time Series: IUP owns a 34-16-1 advantage in the all-time series against The Rock. The Crimson Hawks swept the season series 2-0 last fall, including a 2-1 double-overtime win in the most recent meeting (
Box Score). IUP has won six-straight against SRU, all of which have been decided by a single goal. The Rock has not defeated Indiana since a 2-1 decision over the sixth-ranked Crimson Hawks in 2011.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is even with opponents in goals scored at 13, despite being outshot 100-86 and edged 79-63 in penalty corners. The Rock ranks 8
th in the PSAC with a 1.63 scoring average, while limiting opponents to a 1.63 goals against average, good for 4
th in the conference.
Kelsey Gustafson leads the team with four goals and
Kailee Krupski has notched three goals to pace the offensive attack for The Rock.
Anna Swearingen has added two goals and an assist, while
Michelle Couch has recorded a goal and two assists.
Megan McKay has dished out a team-best three assists, while
Allison Shade rounds out the top point scorers with a goal and an assist.
Baylee Childress anchors a strong defensive unit with a team-high six defensive saves, followed by Gustafson and
Kayla Mack with three defensive saves apiece.
Carlee DuMars has played every minute in goal and is 4-4 with a 1.54 goals against average and .800 save percentage. She has made 52 saves and allowed 13 goals in just under 590 minutes of action. DuMars ranks 2nd in the PSAC in saves and 4
th in goals against average and save percentage.

Scouting the Crimson Hawks: Indiana has been outscored 13-6 despite outshooting opponents 59-54 and edging the opposition 58-39 in penalty corners. The Crimson Hawks rank last in the PSAC with a 1.00 scoring average, while opponents have scored 2.17 goals per game, good for 7
th in the conference. Tia Barndt leads the attack with two goals, while Ericka Griffith has added a goal and two assists. Jess Kida has recorded a goal and an assist and Haley Fidler and Gabriela Feaser have each scored one goal. Paige Klouser leads the back line with one defensive save. Darian Shuker has started all six games for IUP and is 2-4 with a 2.00 goals against average and .711 save percentage. She has made 27 saves and allowed 11 goals in 385 minutes of action. Shuker ranks 5
th in the PSAC in saves, 6
th in goals against average and 9
th in save percentage.

Head Coaches: Julie Swiney, the 2012 PSAC-West Coach of the Year, enters her fifth season at the helm for Slippery Rock. She has led The Rock to four consecutive six-win seasons since 2010, including the fourth best record in school history with eight wins in 2012. After not reaching the PSAC playoffs since 1987, Swiney led The Rock to its first playoff berth in 2011 and again in 2012. Before coming to Slippery Rock, Swiney served as American International's head coach from 2006-2009. A 2003 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Swiney was a three-year starter in field hockey for the Tribe. She led the Tribe to a Top-20 national ranking in each of her three seasons and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Gary Agard finished his fourth season as the head coach of the IUP field hockey team in 2013 after leading the Crimson Hawks to their second straight PSAC tournament appearance. Prior to IUP, Agard spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for perennial national power Bloomsburg. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Agard helped the Huskies post a record of 175-16 in his eight seasons on the staff and Division II national championships each year except for 2005 when Bloomsburg finished as the runners-up. Agard was a member of both the Trinidad and Tobago junior and senior field hockey national teams from 1981 to 1983. He was also a member of teams that won the North East Field Hockey Association title each year from 1996-2001 and represented the U.S. at the inaugural Pan-Am field hockey club championships held in Jamaica.

Next Up: The Rock returns to action Saturday, Oct. 4, on the road against No. 1 Millersville. The PSAC showdown is set to get underway at 1 p.m. from Biemesderfer Stadium.
