Rock returns home to host Kutztown

The Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team will look to return to its winning ways when it hosts Kutztown University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will look to return to its winning ways when it hosts Kutztown University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at James Egli Field.

Records: Slippery Rock has won three out of its last four contests and enters Wednesday's game with an overall record of 3-2-1 and ranked ninth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a league tally of 2-2-1.
 
Kutztown has won two out of its last three games to improve its overall record to 3-2-0 and its PSAC mark to 2-2-0. KU begins the week slotted 11th in the league standings.
 
Last Time Out: Slippery Rock dropped a close 1-0 decision at No. 16 Indiana (Pa.) in overtime to snap a four-game unbeaten streak (Box Score).
 
Alaina Curry scored two goals en route to a 3-0 non-conference win for the Golden Bears against Alderson-Broaddus (Box Score).
 
Scouting Slippery Rock: SRU has surrendered just four goals on the season, which is tied for the fifth fewest in the PSAC. Offensively, Slippery Rock's 54 shots on goal are the third most in the league. Over its last three games Slippery Rock has 33 shots on goal while only allowing 10 opponent shots on goal.
 
Rock goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman is tied for the league lead in shutouts with three. Hegeman has also stopped 28 shots (.875 percent) and compiled a goals against average (GAA) of 0.63.
 
Andrea Felix and Ali Brosky share the team lead in goals scored at two each with Felix holding a slim lead in total points thanks to her one assist. Felix is just two points away from moving into a three-way tie for 24th all-time at Slippery Rock in career points scored.
 
Also climbing up The Rock career record books is Dara Demich, who is two points shy from moving into a tie for 26th all-time in the category.
 
Demich and Leslie Henny have accounted for The Rock's other two goals this season. Caitlin Binder, Brooke Edwards and Haley Burkholder have also helped out on Rock scores with one assist apiece.
 
Slippery Rock has won 15 of its last 19 (.789 percent) matches at Egli Field.
 
Scouting Kutztown: The Golden Bears rank fifth in the PSAC in both goals scored (eight) and goals allowed (four). Kutztown is yet to allow a first half goal in 2014. Mariah Dimm has recorded a team-best seven points on the season off of three goals and one assist. Curry is Kutztown's only other multi-goal scorer with a pair of goals. Goalkeeper Deanna Messner has started every game for KU and has two shutouts, 14 saves and a 0.79 GAA.
 
Head Coaches: Now in her 20th season in charge of the Slippery Rock program, head coach Noreen Herlihy owns an impressive 242-107-30 record. She needs just eight victories to become the 11th head coach in NCAA Division II women's soccer history to amass 250 career wins.
 
Kutztown's Erik Burstein is in his eighth season as the Golden Bears' head coach. Since arriving at Kutztown, Burstein has not had a losing season and has produced an overall record of 94-44-11.
 
Series History: Slippery Rock holds an 11-7-1 edge over Kutztown in the all-time series. Slippery Rock is 5-4-1 in its last 10 matches against the Golden Bears.
 
Last Meeting: Felix had a goal and an assist while Nicole Krueger scored what would turn out to be the game-winner in the 64th minute to lead No. 21 SRU to a 2-1 victory against Kutztown on Oct. 16, 2013 (Box Score).
