MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team hits the road to take on No. 3 Millersville Saturday at noon. After starting the season with five straight home contests, this will be the first game away from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium for The Rock.
Although both teams are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the match will not count towards the PSAC standings for either team.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the contest at 3-2. The Rock upset No. 7 Bloomsburg 3-2 Wednesday, giving SRU its first ever win over the Huskies.
Millersville enters the contest as the No. 3 team in the nation with a 4-0 record. The Marauders dropped No. 2 West Chester 3-1 Wednesday in West Chester, Pa.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outscoring the opposition 14-9 through five games and is outshooting opponents 88-55. The Rock is also posting a 59-40 advantage in penalty corners.
Lindsay Brown has recorded a point in every game this season, leading the team with four goals and four assists.
Megan McKay has scored three goals, while
Gina Smarrelli and
Courtney Bradshaw each have two.
Renee Rosenblum,
Lauren Geiser and
Kelsey Gustafson have all found the cage once.
Allison Shade has two assists and
Meghan McKinney has an assist to cap the point scorers. Slippery Rock's defense has been the key to its success early in the season, fueled by
Baylee Childress' two defensive saves. Gustafson, McKinney,
Lauren Hart and
Lauren Shideler each have one defensive save as well.
Scouting the Marauders: The No. 3 team in the country, Millersville is dominating opponents through the early portion of the season. The Marauders are outscoring opponents 18-3 through four games and outshooting the opposition 86-21, while posting a 66-24 advantage in penalty corners. Millersville has 11 different players who have recorded a goal, including five that have scored at least two. Rachel Dickinson leads the team with four goals, while Sarah Bomberger, Champayne Hess, Alicia Youtz and Margaret Thorwart each have two. Bomberger and Samantha Ruane lead the team with three assists apiece.
Keepers: Courtney Lee and
Carlee DuMars have played near even minutes in goal for SRU this year. Lee is 2-1 with a 1.58 goals against average and .800 save percentage, while DuMars is 1-1 with a 2.00 goals against average and .722 save percentage.
Lauren Sotzin has started every game for Millersville, posting a .75 goals against average and .813 save percentage. Sotzin has recorded two shutouts through four games.
Coaches: Julie Swiney, the reigning PSAC-West Coach of the Year, enters her fourth season at the helm for Slippery Rock. She led The Rock to back-to-back six-win seasons in 2010 and 2011, before matching the fourth best record in school history with eight wins in 2012. After not reaching the PSAC playoffs since 1987, Swiney led The Rock to its first playoff berth in 2011 and again in 2012. Before coming to Slippery Rock, Swiney served as American International's head coach from 2006-2009. A 2003 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Swiney was a three-year starter in field hockey for the Tribe. She led the Tribe to a Top-20 national ranking in each of her three seasons and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
Shelly Behrens, the 2012 Womensfieldhockey.com National Coach of the Year and PSAC-East Coach of the Year, is in her sixth season as head coach of the Marauders. Behrens came to Millersville following a brief, but successful one-year stint at Oneonta State. Prior to her duties at Oneonta State, Behrens had already established herself as a winning head coach at the game's top level by building Virginia Commonwealth into a competitive program and was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 2003. Behrens' head coaching career began at the University of Richmond in 1997. Behrens was a standout goal keeper for Old Dominion, winning the national championship in 1984.
Series: The Rock is 10-22-2 all-time against Millersville. SRU lost 2-0 in last season's only match.
Next Up: Slippery Rock begins PSAC play Friday, Sept. 27, on the road against Kutztown. The game will be the second of a four game road swing for The Rock.
