SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team scored five second half goals on the way to defeating Mercyhurst University 6-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Saturday at James Egli Field.

The Rock bounced back from a tough 2-1 loss at No. 25 Gannon earlier in the week to improve its records to 6-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in PSAC games. The Lakers drop to 4-5-1 overall and 3-5-1 in league action.

Saturday's game could have been renamed the Andrea Felix show after the freshman standout scored her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist to account for four of the team's six goals.

Felix scored the only goal SRU would need in the 27th minute, assisted a goal in the opening minute of the second half and capped off her hat trick with goals in the 72nd and 78th minutes.

Crysta Ganter also registered a multiple point performance with a goal of her own and two assists. The Rock also got goals from Ali Brosky and Dara Demich and assists from Marissa Clough and Nicole Krueger.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 17-6 in total shots, 9-2 in shots on goal and 11-1 in corner kicks.

Dana O'Neill earned the win in goal after recording one save in 76 minutes of action. She was relieved by Annabelle Hegeman, who did not face a shot in the final 14 minutes.

It looked as if Mercyhurst would get the opening goal when Nikki Charboneau's shot was saved by O'Neill in the 20th minute and the rebound found the foot of Lauren Testa with an empty net in front of her. Testa was denied by defender Marissa Scullin, who kicked her shot away before it could reach the goal line.

Slippery Rock scored on the next shot of the game when Felix and Ganter played a perfect give-and-go up the middle of the field and Felix ripped one into the upper left corner of the net in the 27th minute.

Felix returned the favor in the first minute of the second half, this time setting up Ganter for her own goal to make it 2-0.

Brosky made it 3-0 with the goal of the game in the 51st minute. After Ganter made a long run down the left sideline to keep the ball in play, she found Brosky near the corner of the box and she bent a perfect shot inside the near post from 20 yards out.

Felix made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute with an easy goal into an empty net after Mercyhurst keeper Ellie McDougall came out to challenge a pass from Clough, but missed and left Felix alone in front.

Felix capped off the hat trick with a finish in front in the 78th minute after taking a pass from Krueger to make it 5-0.

The game's final goal came in the 79th minute when Demich picked up a loose ball and scored over McDougall from the right side.

McDougall finished the game with three saves for the Lakers.

Slippery Rock will have a rare six days off before playing back-to-back games next weekend. The Rock will visit Bloomsburg Friday for a 3 p.m. game and will play at Lock Haven Saturday in a 5 p.m. game.
