No. 11 Rock host Mercyhurst Saturday

No. 11 Slippery Rock will host Mercyhurst Saturday in a PSAC game at 2 p.m. at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will host Mercyhurst University Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at 2 p.m. at James Egli Field.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with an overall record of 5-2-1 and PSAC mark of 4-2-1. The Rock had a four-game losing streak snapped Tuesday night with a 2-1 loss at No. 25 Gannon.

Mercyhurst enters the game with an overall record of 4-4-1 and a PSAC mark of 3-4-1. The Lakers are coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 19 California (Pa.) Tuesday evening.

Rankings: Slippery Rock has been ranked in four of the five national polls released this season, reaching as high as No. 8 and moving up 13 places to No. 11 in the this week's rankings, which were announced Tuesday.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outshooting the opposition 120-53 and outscoring opponents 13-6.

Andrea Felix leads the team with four goals and one assist, while fellow freshman Dara Demich ranks second in scoring with three goals and one assist. Allison Harbart has added one goal and a team-high three assists, while Cailin Conner, Lauren Impey and Caitlin Binder all have one goal and one assist to lead the scorers.

The Rock's back four of Impey, Izabel Scott, Marissa Scullin and Lynn Neef has allowed just 24 shots on goal in eight games.

Scouting the Lakers: Mercyhurst is being outscored 17-16 and outshot 133-117.

The Lakers are led by Lauren Testa with five goals and one assist and Perrin Kern with three goals and one assist. Janine Wong has one goal and leads the team with four assists and Linnea Laitinen has two goals. Six other players have scored one goal on the year.

The Laker defense has allowed 72 shots on goal in nine games.

Goalkeepers: Dana O'Neill is 4-2-1 with two shutouts for Slippery Rock. She owns a 0.83 goals against average and a .727 save percentage.

Ellie McDougall has started all nine games for Mercyhurst and is 4-4-1 with one shutout, a 1.74 goals against average and a .775 save percentage.

Series: Mercyhurst owns a 14-5-1 all-time advantage, but SRU has owned the edge lately, including a 5-0 win over the Lakers last fall here in Slippery Rock.

Last Time: (Box Score) Dana O'Neill made five saves and Slippery Rock tallied four second half goals to defeat Mercyhurst 5-0 Sept. 5, 2012.

Stephanie Buckenheimer scored two goals and added an assist and Caitlin Binder tallied three assists to lead the offensive attack. Izabel Scott and Lauren Impey also scored goals and Leslie Henny picked up an assist.

The Rock posted advantages of 16-14 in total shots, 8-5 in shots on goal and 7-6 in corner kicks.

Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy, the reigning PSAC and Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, is in her 19th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 17 consecutive winning seasons and owns a career record of 229-105-28. The 17 straight winning seasons include 15 consecutive with at least 10 wins and ranks as the eighth-best streak in Division II history.

Keith Cammidge is in his 12th season as the head coach of the women's program at Mercyhurst, where has led the team to a record of 135-73-17. Cammidge took the team to the NCAA Tournament for three years from 2006-08, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2008. He also served as the head coach of the men's team at Mercyhurst from 2002-2009, posting a 101-42-13 record.

PSAC Gets Deeper: With the addition of Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown to the PSAC this year, the league now has 17 women's soccer teams, meaning nearly every game on the 2013 schedule will count in the PSAC standings. The only non-conference game for SRU this season was a 1-0 win at Davis & Elkins Sept. 21.

Next Up: Slippery Rock travels to Bloomsburg Friday, Oct. 11 for a 3 p.m. game and will visit Lock Haven the next day for a 5 p.m. game.
