SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team hosts No. 2 Millersville Saturday (11:30 a.m.) and Lindenwood Sunday (12:00 p.m.) at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the contest at 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC after Wednesday's 3-2 loss at IUP. The Rock will be pleased to return home after dropping four straight road contests, including a 4-0 decision at Millersville.
No. 2 Millersville enters the contest undefeated at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC. The Marauders are coming off a 4-0 victory over Mansfield last weekend.
Lindenwood enters the contest at 2-5 after snapping a three-game losing streak with an 8-2 victory over Newberry College last Saturday.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is being edged 25-22 in goals, 19-12 in assists and 95-89 in penalty corners by the opposition. The Rock holds advantages of 144-116 in total shots and 108-84 in shots on goal against opponents.
Lindsay Brown leads The Rock in scoring with nine goals and five assists.
Megan McKay has scored three goals,
Allison Shade has recorded two goals and two assists and
Courtney Bradshaw and
Gina Smarrelli have each scored twice to round out the top point leaders for Slippery Rock.
Baylee Childress has three defensive saves and
Lauren Shideler has two defensive saves to lead The Rock's defense.
Kelsey Gustafson,
Meghan McKinney and
Lauren Hart have each recorded a defensive save as well.
Scouting the Marauders: The second-ranked Marauders have dominated opponents through its first seven games. Millersville holds advantages of 28-4 in goals, 155-35 in total shots, 101-23 in shots on goal, 22-2 in assists and 123-33 in penalty corners. Rachel Dickinson leads the team with five goals, while Samantha Ruane, Champayne Hess, Katelyn Zapp and Lauren Gerhart each have three goals. Sarah Bomberger is second on the team in points with six assists and two goals.
Scouting the Lions: Lindenwood is being edged 31-18 in goals, 140-84 in total shots, 84-56 in shots on goal, 24-7 in assists and 106-42 in penalty corners. Kristi O'Connor leads the Lions in points with eight goals and two assists. Ashton Lichvar and Carly Brengosz each have two goals for Lindenwood, while Kelsey Musson's three assists are a team-high.
Goalkeepers: Courtney Lee has started eight of nine games for The Rock and owns a 2-4 record, 2.69 goals against average and .700 save percentage.
Carlee DuMars has appeared in seven games with one start and owns a 1-2 record, 2.86 goals against average and .615 save percentage.
Lauren Sotzin has started all seven games for the Marauders and owns a 7-0 record, .57 goals against average and .826 save percentage. Sotzin has recorded four shutouts in seven games.
Victoria Gill has started all seven games for the Lions and owns a 2-5 record, 5.69 goals against average and .613 save percentage.
Head Coaches: Julie Swiney, the reigning PSAC-West Coach of the Year, enters her fourth season at the helm for Slippery Rock. She led The Rock to back-to-back six-win seasons in 2010 and 2011, before matching the fourth best record in school history with eight wins in 2012. After not reaching the PSAC playoffs since 1987, Swiney led The Rock to its first playoff berth in 2011 and again in 2012. Before coming to Slippery Rock, Swiney served as American International's head coach from 2006-2009. A 2003 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Swiney was a three-year starter in field hockey for the Tribe. She led the Tribe to a Top-20 national ranking in each of her three seasons and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
Shelly Behrens, the 2012 Womensfieldhockey.com National Coach of the Year and PSAC-East Coach of the Year, is in her sixth season as head coach of the Marauders. Behrens came to Millersville following a brief, but successful one-year stint at Oneonta State. Prior to her duties at Oneonta State, Behrens had already established herself as a winning head coach at the game's top level by building Virginia Commonwealth into a competitive program and was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 2003. Behrens' head coaching career began at the University of Richmond in 1997. Behrens was a standout goalkeeper for Old Dominion, winning the national championship in 1984.
Sarah Johnson is in her third season as the field hockey head coach at Lindenwood. In 2012, Johnson led the team to being named the most improved team in NCAA Division II after winning the Independent Alliance Tournament. Before coaching the Lions, Johnson was the assistant coach at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. During her playing career, Johnson started 79 of 80 games in her career for the Missouri State Bears from 2005-2008. At Missouri State, she was a four-year starter and two-time captain.
