SLIPPERY ROCK Pa. – The 15th ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team won its seventh consecutive game Saturday, defeating West Chester 1-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
The win improves Slippery Rock to 11-2-1 overall and 10-2-1 in league games and guarantees The Rock a berth in the PSAC playoffs that begin Nov. 5.
West Chester drops to 10-6 overall and 9-6 in league games with the loss.
The game was scoreless until the 65th minute when
Allison Harbart beat her defender and fired a shot into the upper right corner from 25-yards out for what would stand as the game-winner.
The game featured an uncharacteristically low 14 total shots, with seven taken by each team. The Rock managed a 3-2 edge in shots on goal and both teams took two corner kicks in the match.
Dana O'Neill earned the shutout in goal for Slippery Rock after making two saves.
Alex Srolis took the loss for West Chester after making two saves and allowing the lone goal before leaving the game in the 66th minute.
Saturday's win completed a weekend sweep for Slippery Rock over teams it met in the PSAC playoffs last year after The Rock defeated East Stroudsburg Friday night.
The weekend wins also are likely to keep Slippery Rock at No. 1 in the Atlantic Region rankings, the spot The Rock occupied earlier this week when the first set of official NCAA rankings were released.
Slippery Rock will play one more home game in the regular season when Millersville visits Oct. 30 for the NSCAA National Game of the Week at 3:30 p.m. The Rock will then close the regular season at Shippensburg Nov. 2.
Saturday's game was the annual Senior Day game for Slippery Rock, which honored seniors O'Neill,
Lauren Impey,
Izabel Scott and
Ali Brosky in a pregame ceremony.
