SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will host the No. 1 team in the nation, Shippensburg, Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the contest with a 6-9 record overall and 2-5 mark in PSAC play. The Rock is coming off a 2-1 loss in double-overtime to Indiana (Pa.) Friday.
No. 1 Shippensburg enters the contest with an unblemished overall record of 14-0, including a 7-0 clip in the PSAC. The Raiders are coming off an 8-0 win at home against Mercyhurst.
Standings: Slippery Rock (2-5) currently sits alone in ninth place of the PSAC standings and one game behind IUP (3-4) for the final playoff spot. The Rock has three PSAC games remaining to make a push for the playoffs.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is being edged 36-33 in goals and 154-132 in penalty corners. The Rock holds advantages of 211-198 in total shots and 161-141 in shots on goal against opponents.
Lindsay Brown leads The Rock in scoring with 12 goals and five assists, followed by
Megan McKay with five goals and
Kelsey Gustafson with four goals.
Allison Shade has recorded three goals and three assists, while
Courtney Bradshaw,
Renee Rosenblum and
Gina Smarrelli have each scored twice.
Baylee Childress and Gustafson each have five defensive saves and
Lauren Shideler has two defensive saves to lead The Rock's defense.
Meghan McKinney and
Lauren Hart have each recorded a defensive save as well.
Scouting the Raiders: The top-ranked Shippensburg squad is outscoring opponents 58-14 through 14 games, averaging 4.14 goals scored during the streak. The Raiders have posted advantages of 342-116 in total shots, 224-78 in shots on goal and 150-92 in penalty corners. Shippensburg has three players with 20 or more points, led by Bre White (12 goals, eight assists), Lauren Taylor (11 goals, three assists) and Megan Jett (10 goals, one assist). Taylor Bender has tallied seven goals and Ari Saytar adds four goals to round out the top attackers for the Raiders. Taylor Fisher anchors the back line with five defensive saves on the season.
Goalkeepers: Carlee DuMars has started the last six games for The Rock and owns a 4-5 record on the season. DuMars holds a 2.13 goals against average and .724 save percentage.
Courtney Lee has started eight games for Slippery Rock and owns a 2-4 record, 2.69 goals against average and .700 save percentage.
Carenna Neely has started all 14 games for Shippensburg and owns a 14-0 record with three shutouts. Neely holds a 1.28 goals against average and .793 save percentage.
Coaches: Julie Swiney, the reigning PSAC-West Coach of the Year, enters her fourth season at the helm for Slippery Rock. She led The Rock to back-to-back six-win seasons in 2010 and 2011, before matching the fourth best record in school history with eight wins in 2012. After not reaching the PSAC playoffs since 1987, Swiney led The Rock to its first playoff berth in 2011 and again in 2012. Before coming to Slippery Rock, Swiney served as American International's head coach from 2006-2009. A 2003 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Swiney was a three-year starter in field hockey for the Tribe. She led the Tribe to a Top-20 national ranking in each of her three seasons and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
Bertie Landes, a 2011 inductee to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame, enters her 15th season as Shippensburg University's head field hockey coach in 2013. Landes has more wins than any other active coach at the NCAA Division II level and ranks second among her active brethren in career winning percentage. Her career record, through 33 seasons, is 418-119-17. That makes for a career winning percentage of .770 – which is the 10th-best mark in NCAA history. Landes also ranks third all-time among NCAA Division II coaches for career victories. While at the helm of the Raiders, Landes has won more than 75 percent of her games, posting a record of 234-63-1 through 14 seasons. She has been named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Coach of the Year six times: 1999, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011 while earning National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) South Region Coach of the Year honors three times: 1999, 2005 and 2010.
Series: Shippensburg owns a 35-6-1 all-time record over The Rock. Shippensburg has recorded 24 straight wins over Slippery Rock, including 2-1 and 2-0 victories last season. The Rock has not defeated the Raiders since a 3-1 win in 1998.
