No. 21 Rock wins fifth straight, 4-0 over Mansfield

No. 21 Slippery Rock tallied four second half goals in a 4-0 win over Mansfield in PSAC action on Homecoming Saturday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 21st ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team allowed just two total shots in a convincing 4-0 win over Mansfield Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at James Egli Field.

The win is the fifth in row for Slippery Rock, which saw its records improve to 10-2-1 overall and 9-2-1 in PSAC games. It marks the 16th consecutive season that The Rock has won at least 10 games.

Mansfield, which has never beaten Slippery Rock in seven tries, drops to 4-9-1 overall and 3-9-1 in league games.

The Mountaineers managed just two shots on the game, but were solid defensively in holding The Rock off the scoreboard until the second half.

Dara Demich scored two goals, Andrea Felix netted her team-leading ninth goal and Cailin Conner tallied a late goal for Slippery Rock, which also received assists from Felix, Lauren Impey and Ali Brosky.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 22-2 in total shots, 13-1 in shots on goal and 6-1 in corner kicks.

Dana O'Neill played the first half in goal for SRU and was not forced to make a save. Annabelle Hegeman played the second half and made one stop to earn the win.

Mansfield's Alana Krieger recorded nine saves in the loss.

Felix opened the game's scoring in the 60th minute when she scored with a header off a cross from Brosky to make it 1-0.

Demich added to the lead in the 78th minute when she was brought down in the box on a breakaway and scored on the ensuing penalty kick.

She made it 3-0 with another goal in the 85th minute, tipping in a pass from Felix.

The final goal came in the 88th minute when Conner scored through traffic off an assist from Impey.

Saturday's game was Homecoming and the 20th Anniversary Celebration for The Rock program and was also the second of five straight home games SRU will play.

Slippery Rock returns to action with back-to-back games next weekend, hosting East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. Friday and West Chester at 1 p.m. Saturday.
