No. 21 Rock women welcome Mansfield Saturday

No. 21 Slippery Rock will welcome Mansfield Saturday for a Homecoming game at 1 p.m. at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 21st-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will host Mansfield University Saturday in a Homecoming game at 1 p.m. at James Egli Field.

Rankings: Slippery Rock has been ranked in six of the seven national polls this year and is No. 21 in this week's poll, released Tuesday. Mansfield is not ranked.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the weekend with an overall record of 9-2-1 and PSAC mark of 8-2-1. The Rock is coming riding a four-game winning streak and is coming off a 2-1 win that snapped Kutztown's seven-game winning streak Wednesday.

Mansfield enters the game with an overall record of 4-8-1 and a PSAC mark of 3-8-1. The Mountaineers are coming off a 5-0 loss at No. 9 California Wednesday.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 25-7 and outshooting the opposition 169-84.

Andrea Felix leads the team with eight goals and three assists, while Dara Demich and Nicole Krueger each have four goals and one assist. Crysta Ganter has two goals and three assists, Allison Harbart and Lauren Impey each have one goal and three assists and Cailin Conner has one goal and two assists to cap the top scorers.

The Rock's back four has allowed just 40 shots on goal in 12 games.

Scouting the Mountaineers: Mansfield is being outscored 24-14 and has matched opponents with 185 shots.

Danielle Lentz leads the team with four goals, while Kelsey Chapman ranks second with two goals and three assists and Danelle Shelters has added two goals and two assists. Jessica Kerwin and Karyn Anselmo each have two goals to cap the top scorers, and Danielle Murray and Jessica Allen each have one goal.

Goalkeepers: Dana O'Neill has started 10 games in goal for SRU and is 7-2-1 with a 0.70 goals against average and a .774 save percentage. Annabelle Hegeman has played in three games and has not allowed a goal.

Alana Krieger has started 11 games in goal for Mansfield and is 3-6-1 with a 1.77 goals against average and a .763 save percentage.

Series: Slippery Rock owns a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 4-0 win last season here at Mansfied.

Last Time: (Box Score): Slippery Rock scored twice in the first 15 minutes and cruised to a 4-0 win over Mansfield at Egli Field, Oct. 16, 2012.

Shelby Ward scored a goal and handed out two assists and Nicole Krueger, Crysta Ganter and Cailin Conner all tallied goals for SRU.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 12-4 in total shots and 4-3 in corner kicks.

Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy, the reigning PSAC and Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, is in her 19th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 17 consecutive winning seasons and owns a career record of 233-105-28. The 17 straight winning seasons include 15 consecutive with at least 10 wins and ranks as the eighth-best streak in Division II history.

Tim Dempsey is in his 12th season as the head coach at Mansfield, where he is the only coach the program has ever had.

PSAC Gets Deeper: With the addition of Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown to the PSAC this year, the league now has 17 women's soccer teams, meaning nearly every game on the 2013 schedule will count in the PSAC standings. The only non-conference game for SRU this season was a 1-0 win at Davis & Elkins Sept. 21.

Next Up: Slippery Rock continues its home stretch with back-to-back games next weekend when East Stroudsburg visits Friday for a 1 p.m. game and West Chester visits Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. Both matches will be played on the turf at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
