SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 21st ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team snapped Kutztown's seven-game winning streak with a 2-1 win over the Golden Bears Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at James Egli Field.

The game featured two teams that were ranked in the top five in the Atlantic Region in this week's regional rankings, with Slippery Rock coming in at No. 3 and riding a three-game winning streak and Kutztown ranking fourth and riding a seven-game winning streak.

Slippery Rock improved to 9-2-1 overall and 8-2-1 in PSAC games with the win, while Kutztown saw its overall and conference records drop to 8-4-0.

The Rock has now won four games in a row by a combined score of 12-1.

Both teams in Wednesday's game controlled the pace of play at certain points of the game, with the Golden Bears earning the edge often in the first half and Slippery Rock controlling the game most of the second half.

The Rock scored on their first attempt of the game when Andrea Felix flicked her team-leading eighth goal of the season over the keeper after taking a long free kick from Lauren Impey in the sixth minute.

Kutztown rallied to tie the game in the 29th minute when Megan Frailer scored her fourth of the year into an empty net after a deflection from Sam Costello's touch found her foot alone in front of the net.

The 1-1 score remained until halftime with Slippery Rock posting a 5-3 edge in shots on goal in the opening period.

The Rock scored the eventual game-winner in the 64th minute when Felix made a run that forced Kutztown keeper Alina Rakiewicz to come out to challenge. Her challenge ricocheted back to Nicole Krueger, who fired in a shot from 30 yards out for her fourth goal of the year before the defense or Rakiewicz could retreat to the goal line.

Kutztown had one solid chance to tie the game late with a corner kick, but a shot was cleared away off the goal line by Lauren Impey to preserve the win.

Dana O'Neill gets credit for the win in goal for Slippery Rock after recording two saves, but must also give credit to The Rock defense, which made three "team saves" in the game. Marissa Scullin, Lynn Neef and Impey all recorded goal-saving clearances.

Rakiewicz made five saves in the loss.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 14-9 in total shots and 7-6 in shots on goal, while Kutztown posted an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Wednesday's game marked the first of five consecutive home games Slippery Rock will play before closing the regular season Nov. 2 at Shippensburg in its final road test of the regular season.

The Rock continues the home stretch Saturday when Mansfield visits for a 1 p.m. Homecoming game at James Egli Field. That game will be followed by the program's 20th anniversary celebration at the Robert Smith Center.
