#8 Rock hosts #2 Shippensburg Saturday

No. 8 Slippery Rock hosts No. 2 Shippensburg at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday for a PSAC-West matchup. The game will be Slippery Rock's "senior day" game.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Slippery Rock field hockey team looks to halt its three game losing streak when it hosts Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division rival, Shippensburg Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Senior Day: Slippery Rock will honor seniors Ally Banks, Gabrielle Malishchak and Grace Bathurst in a pregame ceremony. The SRU athletic department thanks and congratulates these ladies for their outstanding efforts throughout their Rock careers.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock enters Saturday's game with a 6-6 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the PSAC-West. The Rock is coming off a 2-1 defeat Wednesday to No. 3 Indiana.

Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 26-19 and is being outshot 174-170, a drastic improvement from last season when it finished with 22 total goals.

Allison Shade leads the team with six goals and one assist, while Kaitlin McGinnis ranks second with five goals. Ally Banks has three goals and a team-high four assists and Kelsey Gustafson has two goals and three assists. Gabrielle Malishchak and Lindsay Brown each have two goals and two assists and Courtney Bradshaw and Rebecca Williams both have two goals to cap the top scorers.

Courtney Lee has started every game in goal for SRU and is 6-6 with one shutout. She has allowed 17 goals for a 1.44 goals against average and has made 74 saves for a .813 save percentage.

Scouting the Raiders: Shippensburg enters Saturday's game with a 12-1 overall record and a 4-1 mark in the PSAC-West. The Raiders are riding a five game winning streak.

Shippensburg is outscoring opponents 51-12 and outshooting the opposition 262-116.

Bre White leads the team with 13 goals and three assists, followed by Taylor Bender and Lauren Taylor with seven goals and one assist each. Sam Langone has four goals and a team-high six assists and Ari Saytar adds four goals and one assist to cap the top scorers. A total of 14 players have scored at least one goal.

Ciarra Delost has started the majority of Ship's games and is 8-1 with two shutouts, a 0.95 GAA and a .830 save percentage. Carenna Neely has played in seven games and is 4-0 with a 1.10 GAA and a .810 save percentage.

Head Coaches: is in her third season at the helm for SRU. She has led The Rock to back-to-back six-win seasons and their first PSAC playoff appearance since 1987. Swiney joined Slippery Rock after serving four years as American International's head coach from 2006-2009. A 2003 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Swiney was a three-year starter for the Tribe.

Bertie Landes is in her 14th season as the head coach at Shippensburg, where she has led the team to a record of 228-61-1. She has more wins than any other active Division II head coach and reached her 400th career coaching win last season. Prior to her time at Ship, she spent 19 seasons as the coach at the Philadelphia Biblical University. In 2011, she was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame. Landes is a 1970 graduate of Lock Haven University.

Series History: This will be the 42nd all-time meeting between the two teams in a series that has been dominated by Shippensburg. The Raiders own a 34-6-1 advantage in the series, with the last Rock win coming in 1998.  Ship has won the last 23 straight meetings.

Last Meeting: Shippensburg edged Slippery Rock, 2-1 earlier this season on Sept. 11. White had a goal and an assist in the first half to lead the Raiders. The Rock's Kelsey Gustafson scored a goal with 11 minutes in regulation but Shippensburg held off Slippery Rock to earn the win.
