ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at Mercyhurst College Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match that was shortened by weather.
Heavy lightning in the area forced the officials to stop the match at the 73:26 mark. After a delay, the officials called the game with more lightning and storms in the area.
By NCAA rules, a game that reaches the 70 minute mark can be declared final if there is no opportunity to finish the game on the same day it started.
With the tie, Slippery Rock moves to 3-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in PSAC play. Mercyhurst goes to 4-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.
The Rock was dominant in the first half of the game, possessing the ball and being rewarded with an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Mercyhurst finished the game with a strong push in the second half, but many of its shots were from distance and were off target.
The Lakers finished the game with a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, with Slippery Rock posting an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Lisa Rodgers earned the shutout in goal for The Rock, stopping all five shots on target. Rachel Griepsma handled three shots to earn the shutout for Mercyhurst.

The Rock will stay on the road for its fourth consecutive game when they travel to Kutztown Saturday, Sept. 24, for a 2 p.m. PSAC match.
