SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A first half goal from Stephanie Buckenheimer was all the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team needed as The Rock defeated Shippensburg 1-0 on the road Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match.

Buckenheimer's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season and came in the 36th minute off an assist from Nicole Krueger.

Slippery Rock (3-2-1, 2-1-1 PSAC) saw an outstanding defensive effort, particularly in the second half, to earn the shutout after Shippensburg (3-2-2, 1-1-1 PSAC) tallied 18 total shots in the game. The Lady Raiders had just four shots in the first half and only one on target, but pushed forward with 14 total shots and seven on target in the second period.

Dana O'Neill keyed that defensive effort with a season-high eight saves in goal, which included seven second half saves to preserve the shutout.

Shippensburg finished the match with advantages of 18-7 in total shots, 8-5 in shots on goal and 9-2 in corner kicks.

Buckenheimer netted the game-winner at the 35:22 mark as The Rock took a 1-0 lead into halftime. At the break, Slippery Rock also maintained a 5-4 edge in total shots and a 4-1 margin in shots on goal.

Saturday's win moved Slippery Rock to a total of seven points in the PSAC standings with two wins and one tie. The win was also the 198th career victory for head coach Noreen Herlihy.

The Rock will continue their current stretch of road games with a Sept. 21 PSAC match at Mercyhurst. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
