ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's indoor track and field team was led by a first-place performance from its distance medley relay team on Saturday at the Jim Wuske Invitational.
Abby Michaelian,
Danielle Mostachetti,
Emily Gusew and
Becky Younger finished the relay race with a time of 13:26.94. Their time was nearly 15 seconds faster than California's (Pa.) second-place time of 13:41.31.
Slippery Rock's success in relay races did not end with the DMR; as The Rock went on to place two teams in the top-five of the 4x400-meter relays as well.
Amanda Seigworth,
Kaela Snyder,
Allison Smith and
Rachel Knapp came in second place with a time of 4:01.37. The team of
Tayler McCracken,
Christina Ransom,
Chelsea Young and
Jade Towns placed fifth after running the race in 4:14.48.
In individual races,
Crystal Burnick and
Caitlin Hancox finished in second and third place in the mile with times of 5:14.32 and 5:14.77 respectively. Both times were qualifiers for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships and new personal bests for the two women.
Stephanie Turak placed 11th with a time of 5:41.50 while Younger placed 14th in 5:44.72.
Smith and Seigworth proved to be just as good on their own as they were on their relay team as the two took part in the 55-meter hurdles and finished with PSAC qualifying times. Smith came in third place at 8.63 and Seigworth placed 12th in 8.89. Smith would also meet the PSAC standard in the 55-meter dash, finishing 13th in 7.73.
In addition to helping her relay team to a fifth-place showing, McCracken would add one more top-10 finish to her name while also qualifying for the PSAC Championships in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. McCracken placed sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 26.88 and 11th in the 400-meters at 1:01.50. Also qualifying for the PSAC Championships in the 400-meters was Snyder, who came in fourth place with a time of 1:00.57.
Distance runner
Sally Dugas set a new personal best time of 11:02.79 in the 3000-meter run and finished in fourth place.
Becky Belding finished right behind her teammate in fifth place at 11:04.60.
Danielle Mostachetti was just outside of the top-10 in 12th at 11:36.03.
Slippery Rock's field event competitors also excelled on Saturday as several athletes either hit PSAC qualifying marks or improved on their previous PSAC qualifying times.
In the pole vault competition,
Angela Schroeder came in second place after clearing 3.36 meters. Schroeder improved on her old PSAC qualifying mark of 3.10 meters. At a clearance of 3.21 meters,
Emily Vaughn and
Kelly Fischer were part of a four-way tie for third place. The distance was a new personal best for Vaughn and above the PSAC qualifying standard. Fischer already has a mark of 3.40 meters to her name from earlier this season.
Rounding out The Rock's pole vaulters were
Jocelyn Cochran and
Julia Cain. Cochran was in a tie for ninth place and Cain was in a tie for 11th place.
Jessica Ferrick put together top-10 performances in both the triple jump, where she finished in third place with a mark of 10.48 meters, and the long jump, where she placed sixth after a jump of 4.99 meters. Both distances were season-bests for Ferrick.
Kylie Vozar led Slippery Rock in the high jump at 1.55 meters, which was good enough for fourth place.
Dilshani Madawala also finished in fifth place and set a new personal best with a jump 1.50 meters.
Slippery Rock will be back in action next Friday at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational and Saturday at the Akron Invite.
