KENT, Ohio - Whitney Hendershot posted a mark of 1.70 meters to win the high jump competition as the Slippery Rock University women's indoor track and field team competed at the Kent State Tune-Up Saturday. The event was the final competition for SRU before next weekend's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships.
Hendershot led a group of Rock field athletes that earned seven top-10 finishes on the day with several competitors also improving on their previous PSAC and NCAA provisional qualifying times.
In addition to Hendershot, who has now recorded identical NCAA provisional qualifying marks of 1.70 meters in consecutive weeks,
Dilshani Madawala and
Kylie Vozar finished the high jump in a tie for 17th place at a clearance of 1.50 meters.
Kelly Fischer (3.51 meters) and
Angela Schroeder (J3.51 meters) both improved on their previous NCAA provisional marks in the pole vault and finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Jocelyn Cochran placed sixth with a top vault of 3.21 meters, a 0.01 improvement over her previous season-high.
Jessica Ferrick's mark of 10.35 meters in the triple jump was good enough for ninth place on Saturday. Madawala also represented SRU in the event with a jump of 10.08 meters.
The long jump saw
Kelly Bruder and Ferrick finish in 11th and 12th place. Bruder registered a jump of 4.93 meters while Ferrick leaped 4.88 meters. Leading The Rock's throwers were
Kim Stitt and
Cassie Carrow. Stitt finished in 14th in the shot put with a throw of 11.86 meters while Carrow took part in the weight throw, placing 15th after a toss of 12.98 meters.
Kaela Snyder's eighth-place showing in the 400-meter dash was the top finish on the day for Rock runners. Snyder's time of 59.15 was an improvement over her previous PSAC championship qualifying time of 1:00.17.
Amanda Seigworth and Bruder also improved upon their PSAC qualifying times in the 60-meter hurdles. Seigworth recorded a time of 9.22 and finished in 10th place while Bruder's time of 9.57 placed her 18th.
Allison Smith finished in between Seigworth and Bruder in 12th place at 9.28. Smith, who also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash on Saturday, had previously ran a 9.04 race in the same event at Kent State during the Golden Flash Gala this past December.
Rounding out SRU's efforts at the KSU Tune-Up were
Sally Dugas, who placed 16th with a time of 10:58.26 in the 3000-meter run, and
Stephanie Case, whose 5:20.57 time in the mile was an improvement over her previous best PSAC qualifying time.
Slippery Rock will now set it sights on a conference title at next weekend's PSAC Championships at Edinboro, Pa. Last season, The Rock finished in second place.
