Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 22nd-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team closed the regular season with its 10th consecutive shutout, defeating Lock Haven 2-0 Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

With the win, Slippery Rock improved its season record to 13-3-2 overall and 10-2-2 in PSAC action. The Rock also moved up to third in the conference standings and clinched a first round home playoff game against sixth-seed West Chester. That game will be played Tuesday at 1 p.m. on the turf at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Lock Haven closed its season at 6-9-3 overall and 4-8-2 in PSAC action.

Shelby Ward scored both of Slippery Rock's goals in the first half off assists from Lucy Hannon and Stephanie Buckenheimer# and Lisa Rodgers earned her ninth shutout of the season in goal.

Saturday's shutout pushed The Rock's current scoreless stretch for opponents to 901:02. SRU has allowed just one goal in the last 1,088:02 of action and finished the regular season allowing only six total goals. The 10-game winning and shutout streak for SRU are both school records for the program.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 11-5 in total shots, 4-2 in shots on goal and 5-2 in corner kicks.

Rodgers made two saves in the shutout, while her counterpart, Hayley Zinn, made two saves and allowed two goals for the Lady Eagles.

Ward wasted little time putting The Rock on the board when she chipped a shot by Zinn at the 8:28 mark after taking a long pass down the right wing from Buckenheimer.

Ward made it 2-0 in the 21st minute when Hannon sent a cross through the box from left to right and she put it into an open net for her second of the game.

Lock Haven would manage just two shots on target the rest of the way, both of which Rodgers was able to handle.

Saturday also marked the final regular season home game for seniors Alyssa Barrett, who is the only four-year senior on the 2011 roster, and transfer graduate student Rodgers.

The Rock will host West Chester Tuesday in what is a rematch of the PSAC semifinals from last season. That game was played at West Chester and ended in a double-overtime tie before the Golden Rams advanced to the final with a win in a penalty kick shootout.
