Track and Field teams compete at DII Challenge

The Rock's female sprinters and men's middle-distance runners led the way at the Division II Challenge hosted by the University of Findlay Saturday

FINDLAY, Ohio
-- Select members of the Slippery Rock University track and field teams competed Saturday at the Division II Challenge at the University of Findlay. The Rock was led by its sprinters on the women's side and its mid-distance runners on the men's side.

For the women, Tiffany Tedesco led the way with a fifth-place showing in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 25.78 seconds. She also placed ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.94 seconds and ran on the fifth-place 4x400-meter relay team.

The Rock's 4x400 team of Tedesco, Rachel Knapp, Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith posted a time of 4:01.71.

Smith and Seigworth also placed ninth and 10th in the 60-meter hurdles, with Smith posting a time of 9.33 seconds and Seigworth following in 9.39.

Slippery Rock also got a sound performance from its distance medley relay team of Abby Michaelian, Caitlin Hancox, Kaela Snyder and Jen Harpp. The foursome placed sixth in a time of 12:30.57.

The Rock's men's team was represented by just two runners in Kevin Jewel and Phil Rector.

Jewel placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.04 and was followed in seventh-place by Rector in 1:58.04.

The remainder of the track and field teams are competing today at Mount Union. That meet is scheduled to end sometime around 10 p.m.  A complete recap of the Mount Union meet will be posted to www.rockathletics.com when results are available.
