KENT, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's indoor track and field team opened its 2009-10 season Friday at the first day of the Golden Flash Gala, hosted by Kent State University.
Terrece Draper was the highest finishing Rock male athlete Friday, placing eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.45-meters (21-02).
Chris Warning placed 10th in the weight throw to lead The Rock throwers on the first day of the two day competition. Warning landed a throw of 16.86-meters (55-03.75) and was joined by
Joel Peters in 16th with a throw of 15.64m (51-03.75).
Brian Ulrich led the distance runners with a 12th-place showing in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in a time of 15:13.00.
Jason Leonard placed 23rd in 15:52.38.
Through three events in the heptathlon,
Brady Wert sat in 15th-place with a score of 1,891 points.
Andrew Greenslade was 21st with a score of 1,814 points going into the final event of the first day, the high jump. Wert and Greenslade will conclude the heptathlon with three events Saturday morning.
Only a limited number of field events, the heptathlon and the 5,000-meter run were contested Friday. The majority of the Golden Flash Gala will take place Saturday, with the first event set for 10 a.m. The final event of the meet is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
