Rock takes trip to Edinboro in PSAC West tilt

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team begins the second cycle of round robin play inside the PSAC West with a matchup against Edinboro 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sox Harrison Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team begins the second cycle of round robin play inside the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division with a matchup against Edinboro 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sox Harrison Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock owns a 33-5-8 record against Edinboro all-time, with the first match being in a 4-1 Rock victory in 1996. SRU and Edinboro have played in every season since the initial matchup.
 
SRU has been victorious in the last 13 games of the series, outscoring the Fighting Scots 43-8 in the process.

THE FIRST TIME AROUND
Slippery Rock scored six goals in a 6-0 victory over Edinboro in PSAC West action Sept. 2 at James Egli Field.

Slippery Rock saw three players score their first career goals as Leah Walter, Irene Doleno and Jilly Deivert found the back of the net for the first time, while Aubrey Grater picked up her first career assist.

Peyton Los, Bailey McGee and Lilia Battalini each netted one goal to go along with Walter, Doleno and Deivert, while Los, Deivert, McGee and Eden Williams each earned one assist.

Leah Allman started in goal and earned the win for Slippery Rock. The senior was not forced to make a save before being substituted for in the 78th while The Rock held a 5-0 advantage. Rosie Willmott Joyce came in for Allman and finished the final 12 minutes of the game.

SRU outshot Edinboro 17-4 overall and 12-0 in shots on goal. The Rock took nine corners compared to the Bald Eagles' two.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock improved to 7-0-0 at home this season as Abby Paterline's 82nd minute game-winner propelled Slippery Rock to a 1-0 victory over Indiana University (Pa.) in PSAC West play Sept. 26 at James Egli Field.

Paterline's goal was her third of the season, as well as her second game-winning goal of the campaign, while Sophia Palermo dished out her second assist of the year on Paterline's goal.

Palermo paced The Rock with three shots, including one on goal. Deivert (2) Jordyn Constable (2) and Summer Hill (2) also took multiple shots for SRU, while Paterline, Los, Battalini, Libby Earley, and Lindsey Price each took one shot.

The Rock ended the game with advantages in shots (14-5), shots on goal (7-2) and corner kicks (9-3).

LOOKING FOR THE FIRST ROAD WIN
As Slippery Rock hits the 10-game mark of the season, it is still looking for its first road win of the season as SRU travels to Edinboro. The Rock have only played three games away from James Egli Field, which included a 3-1 loss to Fairmont State University and a 1-0 defeat to Seton Hill University as well as a 1-1 draw at Gannon University.

A LOOK AROUND THE PSAC WEST
Slippery Rock retained sole possession of first place in the PSAC West with 19 points after the win. The Rock leads Gannon, who is currently in second place, by three points as the Golden Knights have 16.

Seton Hill has a hold of the third spot in the division with 14 points, as Lock Haven follows the Griffins with 13 points in fourth place. The rest of the PSAC West standings sit as follows, Edinboro (12), Clarion (11), IUP (11), California (Pa.) (4) and Pitt-Johnstown (2).

LOS EARNS PSAC WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Los earned the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference office announced Monday.

Los, a freshman midfielder from Sarver, Pennsylvania, earns Slippery Rock its second PSAC weekly award this season. Los becomes the 25th different player to earn a PSAC weekly award for SRU and take home its 56th PSAC weekly award overall since 2004.

Los is the sixth freshman to win a PSAC weekly award for The Rock overall and the first since Kayla Swope in 2019.

The freshman helped Slippery Rock to a 2-0-0 week overall. Los began with week with her first career brace that included a game-winning goal on five shots on goal in 63 minutes of action during a 6-2 win over California (Pa.). The midfielder also spent 65 minutes on the pitch and took one shot in a 1-0 win over Indiana University (Pa.).

LEADING THE ROCK
Battalini leads The Rock in points at the halfway mark of the season with 11 on four goals and three assists in 10 games played. Palermo trails Battalini with 10 points on four goals and two assists, while Los rounds out Slippery Rock's top trio of point scorers with nine points on four goals and one assist.

Paterline (3), Deivert (3), Williams (2) and Hill (2) each have multiple goals, while McGee, Price, Constable, Doleno, Gianna Revetta, Leah Walter, Chloe Flynn, and Addison Bell each have one goal for The Rock.

McGee and Battalini are tied for the team lead in assists with three, while Deivert, Paterline, Price and Willaims all have two helpers.

Palermo leads the charge with 29 shots, followed by Battalini and Deivert with 20 shots each.

Madisyn Sedor, a crucial part of Slippery Rock's backline, leads all Rock field players with 696 minutes played respectively (69.6 mpg).

IN GOAL FOR THE ROCK
Allman leads Slippery Rock in all goalkeeper statistics after starting all 10 games. Allman has a 0.99 goals against average with a .700 save percentage on 21 saves.

Willmott Joyce has appeared in three games and made four saves in 73 minutes of play.

Allman is approaching numerous records among Slippery Rock goalkeepers. The senior currently sits inside the top five in four different categories (goalie games started, saves, wins and shutouts). Allman is Slippery Rock's leader in career goalie starts with 65.

Allman is also tied for first in wins in SRU history, as well as 11 saves away from second and four shutouts away from moving into third place in the respective categories.

EDINBORO SCOUTING REPORT
The Fighting Scots currently sits in fifth place in the PSAC West standings with a 4-4-0 record in the division, while holding a 4-5-1 record overall. As Edinboro starts its second cycle of PSAC West play, it needs to hold or improve on its position to make the PSAC Tournament, which takes the five teams from each division.

Jada Cole, Elise Cacchione and Hailey Marchlewski each have four points to lead Edinboro. Cole is the only Edinboro player with multiple goals (2), while Cacchione and Marchlewski have two assists each.

Brianna Garey has played every minute so far in goal for Edinboro and has a 1.50 GAA with a .722 save percentage with three clean sheets on 39 saves and 15 goals allowed.
