CLARION, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team claimed another late-game victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action via
Sophia Palermo's 88
th minute game-winner in a 1-0 contest against Clarion under the lights Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.
With the result, Slippery Rock improved to 9-2-1 overall with an 8-1-1 mark inside the PSAC West with the win, while Clarion's overall record fell to 4-5-3 and 3-5-3 in the division after the loss.
Palermo scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, including her fourth game-winner of the season and the eighth of her career. The senior is now tied for eighth place in SRU history with two other players for the most game-winning goals.
Libby Earley picked up her second assist of the season on Palermo's goal.
Palermo led all players with eight shots, including four on goal. Earley (3),
Lindsey Price (4),
Abby Paterline (4)and
Lilia Battalini (3) also took multiple shots for The Rock.
Bella Gianfrancesco,
Bailey McGee,
Peyton Los and
Jilly Deivert rounded out Slippery Rock shot takers with one apiece.
Leah Allman was not forced to make a save in her 23
rd career clean sheet and her 42
nd career victory.
The Rock put constant pressure on the Golden Eagles for the full 90 minutes, but found their game-winner in the 88
th minute from Palermo on SRU's final shot of the game.
Slippery Rock ended the game with advantages in shots (26-2), shots on goal (10-0) and corner kicks (12-0).
The Rock are back in action and finish their three-game road trip against PSAC West opponent Pitt-Johnstown 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Earlier this season, Slippery Rock claimed a 2-1 victory over the Mountain Cats at James Egli Field.
