Rock ends road trip with 2-1 victory at Pitt-Johnstown

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team completed its three-game road trip and won its fifth straight game with a 2-1 victory against PSAC West foe Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team completed its three-game road trip and won its fifth straight game with a 2-1 victory against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division foe Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.

With the result, Slippery Rock improved to 10-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 inside the PSAC West with the win, while Pitt-Johnstown fell to 1-10-2 overall as well as 0-9-2 in the division with the loss.

The win clinched Slippery Rock its 10th win of the season, giving Slippery Rock's head coach Noreen Herlihy her 18th straight 10-win season at the helm at The Rock.

Abby Paterline and Jilly Deivert each scored one goal off the bench for SRU, while Bella Gianfrancesco grabbed her first career assist in the victory.

Deivert led all players with five shots, including three shots on goal. Bailey McGee (4), Sophia Palermo (3), and Peyton Los (2) also took multiple shots for The Rock, while Paterline, Gianfrancesco, Eden Williams, Jordyn Constable, Libby Earley and Lilia Battalini rounded out Slippery Rock's shot takers with one shot apiece.

Leah Allman played all 90 minutes and made two saves in her fourth clean sheet of the season and the 24th of her career.

After a scoreless first half that saw Slippery Rock take 10 shots, it took The Rock until the 70th minute to find the back of the net of the foot of Paterline, who pounced on a loose ball at the back post, giving SRU a 1-0 lead.

Slippery Rock doubled its advantage in the 88th minute when Deivert took a pass from Gianfrancesco on the left wing, before floating a shot over the UPJ goalkeeper, closing the 2-0 win for The Rock.

The Rock ended the game with advantages in shots (20-2), shots on goal (12-2) and corner kicks (4-1).

Slippery Rock returns home for a divisional matchup against Seton Hill University 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at James Egli Field. Earlier this season, Seton Hill gave Slippery Rock its only conference loss this season, 1-0, Sept. 19 at Dicks Sporting Goods Field.
