Rock continues road trip at Clarion

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team continues its road trip with a PSAC West matchup under the lights against Clarion 7 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock and Clarion faced off for the first time in 2001, which resulted in a 4-0 Rock victory. The tilt between The Rock and the Golden Eagles has been an annual series since the inaugural match. Slippery Rock owns a 33-1-3 all-time record against Clarion and a 17-1-2 mark on the road against the Golden Eagles. SRU's defense has been a staple of this matchup as Clarion has only scored in 17 of the 37 matches in the series.

THE FIRST TIME AROUND
Slippery Rock three goals in each half to secure a 6-2 PSAC West victory over Clarion Sept. 16 at James Egli Field.

Sophia Palermo and Eden Williams each scored a brace in the game, while Lilia Battalini scored her third goal of the season and Gianna Revetta found the back of the net for her first career goal.

Bailey McGee, Lindsey Price and Summer Hill each grabbed one assist, while Abby Paterline led The Rock with two helpers.

Palermo led all players with nine shots and four on goal. Battalini (5), Paterline (3), McGee (2), Williams (2) and Jilly Deivert (3) each took multiple shots for SRU.

Leah Allman earned the win in goal after making one save over the 90 minutes.

Slippery Rock ended the game outshooting Clarion, 28-5, including 13-3 in shots on goal. The Rock also took three corner kicks to the Golden Eagles' zero. Clarion led saves, 7-1, and committed more fouls, 9-7.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock grabbed a nail-biting victory in PSAC West action against Edinboro, 2-1, after McGee secured a brace on her game-winning goal with six seconds left Sept. 30 at Sox Harrison Stadium.

McGee's brace was the second of her career as the senior was the lone goal scorer for The Rock. McGee's first career brace was a part of a six-point game (2 G, 2 A) against the Fighting Scots in 2024.

Allman started in goal for Slippery Rock and made a season-high eight saves. As The Rock came away victorious, Allman became Slippery Rock's all-time leader in wins with 41. The senior surpassed Dana O'Neill (2009-13) for the most victories as a Slippery Rock goalkeeper.

McGee and Deivert led SRU with five shots apiece, while Palermo (3), Lillian Snyder (3) and Bella Gianfrancesco (2) all took multiple shots for SRU.

Williams, Paterline and Jordyn Constable rounded out Slippery Rock's shot takers with one shot each.

Slippery Rock ended the game with advantages in shots (21-9), shots on goal (10-7) and corner kicks (5-3).

RECEIVING VOTES
Slippery Rock entered the receiving votes portion of the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Top 25 poll released this Tuesday. The Rock are the sixth team on the list of teams receiving votes and are looking to become ranked in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2013-14 seasons. FIRST ROAD WIN SECURED
Entering the game against the Fighting Scots, Slippery Rock was 0-2-1 on the road, secured its first road win of the season last time out against Edinboro with a 2-1 victory. The Rock have a 7-0-0 home record 11 games into the season.

LATEST ROCK GAME-WINNER SINCE 2003
McGee's game-winner against the Fighting Scots came with just six seconds left on the clock, surpassing Dara Demich's game-winning goal against California (Pa.) in 2015 for Slippery Rock's latest documented game-winning or game-tying goal since 2003.

A LOOK AROUND THE PSAC WEST
Slippery Rock currently sits in a tie for first place in the PSAC West with 22 points after the win and its bye Sept. 30. The Rock are deadlocked in a tie with Gannon, who also has 22 points on one more game played than SRU.

Lock Haven has a hold of the third spot in the division with 17 points, as Edinboro and Seton Hill follow the Bald Eagles with 15 points apiece in a tie for fourth place. The rest of the PSAC West standings sit as follows, IUP (14), Clarion (12), California (Pa.) (5) and Pitt-Johnstown (2).

LEADING THE ROCK
Battalini leads The Rock in points with 11 on four goals and three assists in 11 games played. Palermo trails Battalini with 10 points on four goals and two assists, while McGee and Peyton Los round out Slippery Rock's top trio of point scorers with nine points apiece.

McGee (3), Paterline (3), Deivert (3), Williams (2) and Hill (2) each have multiple goals, while Price, Constable, Revetta, Irene Doleno, Leah Walter, Chloe Flynn, and Addison Bell each have one goal for The Rock.

McGee and Battalini are tied for the team lead in assists with three, while Deivert, Paterline, Price and Willaims all have two helpers.

Palermo leads the charge with 32 shots, followed by Deivert with 25 shots and Battalini with 20.

Madisyn Sedor, a crucial part of Slippery Rock's backline, leads all Rock field players with 786 minutes played respectively (71.5 mpg).

Allman leads Slippery Rock in all goalkeeper statistics after starting all 11 games. Allman has a 0.99 goals against average with a .722 save percentage on 29 saves.

CLARION SCOUTING REPORT
The Golden Eagles enter the matchup with The Rock holding a 4-4-3 record overall and a 3-4-3 mark inside the PSAC West. After winning its first three games, including a win over No. 14 Gannon, Clarion has only won one of its last eight contests.

Junior forward Leah Deal leads all Clarion players in points with 10 on four goals and two assists. Ciara DiMauro (8) and Kelly O'Donnell (5) round out Clarion's top three point-scorers.

Senior goalkeeper Sage Sherk has played every minute in net for the Golden Eagles, holding a 1.55 GAA and a .750 save percentage on 51 saves and two clean sheets.
