Rock to host IUP, travel to Pitt-Johnstown

Slippery Rock returns to the PSAC West portion of its schedule this weekend when it hosts IUP 6 p.m. Friday at Morrow Field House before traveling to Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at noon.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition this weekend for a pair of matches.
 
THE SCHEDULE
The Rock opens the weekend by hosting IUP 6 p.m. Friday at Morrow Field House before traveling to Pitt-Johnstown Saturday for a high noon showdown.

While The Rock holds a 65-51 record over the Crimson Hawks all-time, SRU has not defeated IUP since 2022 as Indiana has won the last seven matches in the series. A year ago, IUP earned two 3-0 victories over The Rock.

SHUTTING DOWN THE SERVE
Slippery Rock has been exceptional over its first 13 matches of limiting its opponents' serving success. Entering the IUP match, SRU leads the PSAC in both aces per set allowed (1.11) and total aces allowed (42).
 
Not only is Slippery Rock statistically the best team in the PSAC at serve reception, but it is also the best in entire Atlantic Region.

THREE-PRONGED ATTACK
As Slippery Rock nears the halfway mark of its season, the team's attack has centered around the trio of Marley Annis, Ava Haynes and Emry Rumbaugh.
 
• A starter in 11 of 12 matches played, Annis is having a career-year offensively with 117 kills on a .159 attack percentage: the highest percentage among SRU's outside hitters. Annis' 3.16 kills per set ranks eight in the PSAC.
 
• Haynes enters the weekend second on The Rock in kills with 81 (2.13 kps / .153), just five away from matching her entire output from a season ago.
 
• After reaching the six-kill threshold just once in her first five matches of the season, Rumbaugh has produced six or more kills in five of her last seven outings.
 
• Slippery Rock is 5-2 on the year when either Annis, Haynes or Rumbaugh reaches a double-digit kill total, but 0-5 when they are held under 10 kills.
 
KRAUSE CLOSING IN ON 1,000 ASSISTS
Paityn Krause is on the cusp of accomplishing something that only 13 other athletes at The Rock have achieved. Krause heads into the IUP match needing just 24 assists to become the 14th athlete in program history to compile 1,000 career assists.
 
Krause has started 11 of SRU's 12 matches this season on the way to totaling 193 assists (5.22 per set) in addition to ranking third on the team in both aces (7) and digs (61).
 
LOEFFLER MAKES 1ST START
Freshman setter Emily Loeffler made her first collegiate start in Daemen match. Loeffler finished the contest matching her season-high totals in both assists (16) and digs (5). She has seen an uptick in playing time of late 56 of her 78 assists on the year coming over SRU's last four matches. Loeffler is one of four Rock rookies who have made starts this season.
 
• Chloe Shirk has started seven consecutive matches en route to establishing herself as one of SRU's best options inside alongside veteran Victoria Nalbach. In her first 11 collegiate matches, Shirk has tallied 13 blocks and 24 kills on a .250 attack percentage.
 
• Ellie Friedrichs has appeared in 11 matches and been a spot starter so far in 2026. She leads The Rock with 17 aces and her 0.55 aces per set rank fourth in the PSAC. She has also made 60 digs, one in back of Krause for third on the team.
 
• Ryan Cameron is the fourth Rock rookie to have started a match this season with the appearance coming against Saginaw Valley State.
 
• Additionally, fellow freshman Bailey Espana has played in five of The Rock's last six sets over two matches against Clarion and Daemen. Espana served one ace versus Clarion and made eight digs in the Daemen match.
 
NALBACH LEADS THE WAY INSIDE
Senior Victoria Nalbach begins the weekend leading The Rock in blocks with 21 (6 solo / 15 assisted / 0.64 per set) all the while delivering 45 kills on an ultra-efficient .246 attack percentage.
 
Nalbach, who is eight blocks shy of 100 for her career, is on pace for her first 100-kill season offensively while also trending towards matching her previous career-high block output from a season ago.
 
DIG IT
Libero Kara Pasquale has recorded a team-high 172 digs so far this season and currently ranks sixth in the PSAC in digs per set (4.53).
 
DEMING EFFECTIVE OFF THE BENCH
Reserve opposite Hayden Deming has been effective off the bench for The Rock in two of her last three appearances. Against Bloomsburg and Clarion, the sophomore netted a pair of five-kill matches on respective attack percentages of .286 and .400.

Slippery Rock has used nine different starting lineups in its 12 matches this season.

Slippery Rock has taken the first set in all of five of its victories this season, but have dropped the opener in its seven losses.
 
EFFICIENCY IS KEY
SRU has recorded a .232 attack percentage in its five wins this season, but has compiled a hitting percentage of just .074 in its five losses. Conversely, opponents have hit only.118 in The Rock's five wins while boasting a .285 attack percentage in SRU losses.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON HAWKS
• The Crimson Hawks come to Morrow Field House in the midst of an eight-match winning streak that included a conference-opening victory over Seton Hill. IUP has dropped just three sets during its winning streak.
 
• Slippery Rock's stout serve reception will be put to the test against an IUP team that ranks 12th in the nation in aces per set (2.45) and 20th in total aces (106). Five Crimson Hawks already have 10 or more aces, including Maddie Zechman's PSAC-high 27.
 
• Offensively, IUP ranks second in the PSAC in kills per set (13.43) and third in attack percentage (.230). Three Indiana athletes already have over 100 kills in Delaney Concannon (121 / 2.88 / .196), Jessica Neiman (112 / 2.67 / .221) and Sammy Stephens (105 / 2.39 / .291).
 
• Defensively, Stephens and Charlotte Potvin are IUP's primary blockers with 69 combined rejections. Libero Brooke Kessler tops Indiana with 143 digs (3.25 per set).  
 
• In two matches against SRU last season, Neiman had 28 kills, Concannon added 23 kills and Potvin came up with seven total blocks.
