Rock set to host Edinboro and Gannon

The Slippery Rock volleyball team continues PSAC West competition this weekend with home matches at Morrow Field House 6 p.m. Friday against Edinboro and 1 p.m. Saturday versus Gannon.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team continues Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition this weekend with home matches 6 p.m. Friday against Edinboro and 1 p.m. Saturday versus Gannon University.

PINK OUT
Saturday's match against Gannon will serve as The Rock's annual "Pink Out" match. SRU will be accepting donations throughout the match with all proceeds going directly to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

SERIES HISTORY
While Edinboro holds an 83-44 record against Slippery Rock in the all-time series it was SRU that came away victorious in the most recent meeting: a four-set (25-18, 25-16, 26-28, 25-23) season finale win to close out 2025.
 
Callie Chevalier and Lauren VonderHaar ended their collegiate careers with 20 kills and 12 blocks, respectively, in the win. Among active Rock athletes, Victoria Nalbach made nine blocks and Kara Pasquale had 24 digs in the contest.

THE ROCK ATTACK
Over the first 14 matches of the season, Slippery Rock's attack has been led by the trio of Marley Annis, Ava Haynes and Emry Rumbaugh.
 
• Annis (131) and Haynes (98) have already secured career-high kill totals with 12 matches remaining in the regular season. Annis' 2.98 kills per set rank 10th in the PSAC, while her .152 attack percentage is second on SRU among Rock athletes with over 100 attacks.
 
• Haynes is one of two Rock athletes to have played all 45 sets this season.
 
• Rumbaugh enters the weekend third on the team in kills with 72.
 
• Slippery Rock is 5-3 on the year when either Annis, Haynes or Rumbaugh reaches a double-digit kill total, but 0-6 when they are held under 10 kills.
 
• Supplementing Slippery Rock's attack have been Victoria Nalbach, Hayden Deming and Gwen McCarthy. SRU's top middle hitter, Nalbach sits at 53 kills on a .241 attack percentage. Deming and McCarthy meanwhile have combined for 64 kills.
 
• Ellie Friedrichs (17), Leah Schreckengost (11) and Paityn Krause (10) have been The Rock's top servers this season in terms of aces. Across the PSAC, Friedrichs is 10th in the league in aces per set (0.45).
 
• Setting duties of late have been distributed between Krause and Emily Loeffler.
 
• Krause, who recently became the 14th athlete in program history to reach 1,000 career assists, has started 12 of 14 matches on the way to totaling 224 assists (5.09 per set).
 
• A freshman, Loeffler has seen an uptick in playing time over the last two weeks as 75 of her 98 assists (3.50 per set) have come over the last six matches.
 
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
• Nalbach begins the third week of PSAC West competition leading The Rock in blocks with 23 (6 solo / 17 assisted).
 
• Another member of The Rock's talented freshmen class, Chloe Shirk has made 10 consecutive starts. She has produced all 16 of her blocks in 2026 over those 10 starts.
 
• Rumbaugh (15), Haynes (12) and Annis (11) have all reached double-digit block totals as well.
 
• Libero Kara Pasquale, who joins Haynes as the other SRU athlete to have played all 45 sets this season, has made a Rock-high 187 digs and is 10th in the PSAC in digs per set (4.16).
 
Annis became the second Rock athlete to 100 digs in 2026 last weekend. She'll open the Edinboro match with 108 (2.45 per set).
 
SHUTTING DOWN THE SERVE
Slippery Rock has been exceptional over its first 15 matches of limiting its opponents' serving success. Entering the Edinboro match, SRU leads the PSAC in both aces per set allowed (1.13) and total aces allowed (51).
 
Not only is Slippery Rock statistically the best team in the PSAC at serve reception, but it is also the best in entire Atlantic Region.

SCOUTING EDINBORO
• Since starting the season 3-4, Edinboro has won five of its last eight matches to come to Morrow Field House at 8-7 in 2026. In conference matches, Edinboro earned a four-set victory over Seton Hill sandwiched between losses to Gannon (3-0) and California (3-2).
 
• The Fighting Scot attack, which ranks 10th in the PSAC in kills per set (11.98) and 12th in attack percentage (.169), featurs four athletes with between 115 and 170 kills in Makayla Neelands (169), Reilly Parent (147), D'Aira Whitner (123) and Taylor Pucky (116).
 
• Christina Lockett ranks fourth in the PSAC in both total blocks (58) and blocks per set (1.04).
 
• Edinboro is fifth in the PSAC in blocks per set (2.03) and digs per set (15.85).

SCOUTING GANNON
• The Golden Knights, which were receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll, enter their Friday match at Clarion on a 12-match winning streak that has lifted their record to 13-2 overall and 3-0 inside the PSAC West. GU's two losses this season both came in the opening weekend of the season to ranked teams.
 
• Gannon leads the PSAC in kills per set (13.7) and digs per set (17.2) in addition to being fourth in blocks per set (2.21).
 
• The Golden Knight attack is spearheaded by Abbey Williams, who has already racked up 204 kills on a .225 attack percentage. Sydney Wake has added 156 kills via .312 attack percentage.
 
• Defensively, Carlee Webber and Brooke Gwiazda are the primary obstacles up front with a combined 89 blocks.
 
• Williams registered two double-doubles against The Rock in the season series a year ago, averaging 11.0 kills, 2.0 aces, 15.0 digs and 3.0 blocks a contest with a .258 attack percentage.
