Â
BACK IN THE TITLE GAME
Slippery Rock will be making its second straight appearance in the PSAC title game after reaching the game last spring for the first time since reinstating the program in 2007. SRU lost that game last year on the road at undefeated West Chester, 17-11. The Rock are hosting the final for the first time ever and are looking for the first title in program history
Â
BACK-TO-BACK WEST CHAMPS
Slippery Rock went 10-0 in the PSAC West to lock up a second straight outright PSAC West title after winning the first title for the program in the modern era last spring. The Rock have won 24 straight games in the PSAC West dating back to 2024.
Â
WE'VE COME A LONG WAY IN 19 SEASONS
Slippery Rock had a women's lacrosse team from 1976-91 before dropping the program. The Rock reinstated the sport as a Division II varsity team in 2007 and went winless for the first two seasons (0-32 combined in 2007 and 2008) before beginning a slow build in 2009 that has seen the program become one of the elite Division II programs in the country. SRU has won 10 or more games in five straight seasons, has won 15 or more games in three straight seasons and 18 or more games in each of the last two seasons.
Â
FIRST UNDEFEATED SRU WOMEN'S TEAM IN MODERN ERA
This year's lacrosse team is the only women's team in the modern era (current NCAA varsity teams) of SRU Athletics to post an undefeated regular season (17-0). The other women's teams in SRU history to have unbeaten regular seasons included the discontinued sports of swimming and water polo and a handful of teams from before Title IX and the inclusion of women's sports in the NCAA. The Rock football team is the most recent men's team at SRU to go undefeated in the regular season after posting 10-0 records in both 2019 and 2023.
Â
SRU IN THE PSAC TOURNAMENT
Slippery Rock is playing in the PSAC Tournament for the third year in a row and just the fifth time since restarting the sport in 2007. The Rock made the tournament in 2017 and 2018, but lost in the quarterfinals each year. SRU picked up its first win in the tournament in 2024 before falling to West Chester in the semifinals. The Rock earned an overtime win over East Stroudsburg in the semifinals in 2025 before falling to West Chester in the title game last spring.
Â
KUTZTOWN IN THE PSAC TOURNAMENT
Kutztown is in a similar position in that the school cut the program and brought it back in nearly the same timeline as The Rock. KU cut the sport in 1990, one year earlier than SRU, and brought it back in 2008, one year after SRU. The Bears are making their second appearance in the PSAC title game in the last three seasons after losing to West Chester in the 2024 final. KU will be playing in its fifth PSAC title game ever and is 1-3 in the previous four with a lone conference title in 1982. Â
Â
EAST HAS BEEN DOMINANT IN PSAC TOURNEY
The PSAC Eastern Division has claimed each of the last eight PSAC titles dating back to 2017. The most recent Western Division champion was Mercyhurst in 2016 and the most recent current team still in the Western Division to win was Lock Haven in 2015, 11 years ago. West Chester was the three-time defending champion and had won six of the last eight titles, while East Stroudsburg won in 2022 and 2017.
Â
RECORDS
Slippery Rock improved to 19-0 with a 13-7 win over No. 10 West Chester in the PSAC semifinals Friday. The Rock went a perfect 10-0 in the PSAC West this spring and 17-0 in the regular season. SRU is 11-0 this year against teams with above .500 records and 5-0 against nationally ranked opponents. Kutztown is 14-5 overall after earning a 10-8 upset win over No. 4 East Stroudsburg Friday in the semifinals. The Warriors handily defeated KU twice in the regular season by scores of 16-6 and 19-9 before the Bears got revenge in a big way Friday and ended the undefeated season for ESU. All five of the losses this year for Kutztown came against top 10 opponents with two losses to East Stroudsburg, two losses to West Chester and a loss to No. 8 Pace.
Â
ALL-TIME SERIES WITH KUTZTOWNÂ |Â Game-by-Game Scores
Slippery Rock owns an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1982. The Bears were 5-3 in the first eight meetings between 1982-90, while Slippery Rock is 8-3 since the series was renewed in 2008. Kutztown won the most recent meeting in 2019 to snap a streak of four straight SRU wins in the series. The Rock are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings dating back to 2011.
Â
LAST MEETING WITH KUTZTOWN
Kutztown outscored Slippery Rock 7-4 in both halves on the way to a 14-8 win at SRU back in March of 2019. The Bears outshot SRU 27-22. ShyAnne Toomer led The Rock with three goals and one assist, while Cyla Cafferata led Kutztown with three goals and three assists. None of the current players or coaches with either team were involved in that game.

Melcher, who also won the NCAA Elite 90 award for the same plaudits last spring, owns a perfect 4.0 GPA while dual majoring in biology and professional Spanish with a minor in chemistry.
Â
COACHES TAKING PROGRAM TO NEW HEIGHTS
Now in their fifth season leading the program, head coach
Taryn Burkholder and assistant coach
Jordan Anderson have completely transformed the SRU lacrosse program. The duo have led SRU to five straight seasons with 10 or more wins for the first time in program history and three straight seasons with 15 or more wins, setting program records for single-season wins in each of the last three years (15 in 2024, 18 in 2025, 19 in 2026). Burkholder has been named the PSAC West Coach of the Year in each of the last three seasons and SRU was honored as the Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2024 and 2025. Anderson was also named the Division II national Assistant Coach of the Year in 2025. Burkholder is 71-21 since taking over as head coach prior to the 2022 season.
Â
REGULAR SEASON WINNING STREAK
Slippery Rock closed out the regular season with its 27th straight regular season win and went 32-1 in the regular season over the last two years. The lone loss in that stretch was a 10-9 overtime loss at Lander on March 15, 2025. The only other two losses SRU has suffered since the opening of last season were in the 2025 PSAC title game last spring to No. 2 West Chester, which SRU avenged in the regional title game two weeks later, and in the 2025 national semifinals to No. 7 Adelphi. The Rock are 37-3 overall since the start of 2025.
Â
HOME WINNING STREAK
Slippery Rock has won its last 22 straight home games and has the second longest active home winning streak in the nation, trailing only the 24 straight home wins by Florida Southern. The Rock are 24-1 at home over the last three seasons with the only loss during that stretch coming against Seton Hill March 23, 2024.
Â
TWO UNBEATENS LEFT IN DIVISION II
Slippery Rock enters the championship game as one of just two Division II teams that are still undefeated on the year. The only other undefeated team across the nation is No. 1 Flagler (Fla.) (19-0). Flagler already won the Gulf South Tournament and will be idle for two full weeks before playing its first NCAA Playoff game. East Stroudsburg was undefeated entering the weekend before being upset by Kutztown Friday in the PSAC semifinals to leave just Flagler and Slippery Rock at 19-0.
Â
ROCK DOMINANT IN PSAC WEST THIS SPRING
Slippery Rock was dominant in its 10 games against the PSAC West this season, putting up a 10-0 record and outscoring the division 184-39 in those 10 games. The average margin of victory for SRU in the PSAC West this spring was +14.5 goals per game.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock trailed West Chester 5-4 at halftime in the semifinals Friday in a rematch of last year's PSAC title game before outscoring the Rams 9-2 in the second half to pull away for a 13-7 win. The Rock were dominant in the possession game and posted a 17-5 advantage in draw controls while turning that into a 36-20 advantage in shots. The 20 shots was the fewest for West Chester in a game in three years and the seven goals was the fewest by a West Chester team since scoring five goals in the 2019 National Championship game.
Isabella Buono paced the attack with four goals and one assist for five points, while
Grace Rotter matched her with five points on three goals and two assists.
Caitlyn Kelly had one goal and one assist,
Maddie Blazey had two assists and
Abby Fink scored two goals.
Shannon Von Kaenel won 13 draw controls and
Lily Ventresca made six saves in goal.
Â
BUONO HITS 100 GOALS
With four goals in the semifinals,
Isabella Buono notched her 100th career goal to become the third player on the current roster with at least 100 career goals, joining
Reagan Richeson and
Grace Rotter. Buono also surpassed 50 goals this season for her first 50-goal season, joining Richeson and Rotter as the three SRU players with at least 50 goals this season.
Â
RICHESON EXTENDS SINGLE-SEASON GOAL RECORD
Attacker
Reagan Richeson broke the SRU single-season record for goals in the quarterfinal game and now has 65 goals on the year, topping the former program record of 61 goals that was set by Amy Halls in 2011. Ironically enough, Richeson and Halls actually went to the same high school outside of Columbus, Ohio (Olentangy) and Halls briefly coached Richeson. Halls was the first All-American player for the lacrosse program and was inducted into the Rock Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
Â
VENTRESCA EXTENDS SINGLE-SEASON WINS RECORD
Goalie
Lily Ventresca broke her own SRU single-season record for wins in the quarterfinal round when she won her 17th game of the season. She extended that record to 18 wins with a win in the semifinals. She set the former record of 16 wins when she went 16-1 last spring. In two seasons as The Rock's starter, Ventresca owns a 34-1 record.
Â
JENKINS ADDS TO SRU SINGLE-SEASON AND CAREER RECORDS
Defender
Paige Jenkins took over sole possession of first place in the SRU career record book for caused turnovers earlier this spring and is now up to 122, surpassing Tia Torchia's previous program record of 101. Jenkins has also already established a new single-season record for caused turnovers at SRU this spring. She enters the title game with 58 caused turnovers, topping the former record of 46 that was set by Torchia in 2018. Jenkins leads all field players in the PSAC in both caused turnovers (58) and ground balls (66) this spring.
Â
ROTTER CLOSING IN ON SINGLE-SEASON POINT MARK
Grace Rotter passed herself on the SRU single-season point ledger during the semifinals and now has 83 points this year, topping the 82 she scored last spring. She now ranks No. 2 and No. 3 in single-season points in SRU history and needs just five more points to tie Emily Benham's single-season record of 88 points from 2022. Rotter needs two more goals to tie Amy Halls's former single-season record for goals and trails Richeson's new record by just six goals.
Â
TOUGH TO SCORE ON
Slippery Rock has limited its last 17 opponents to eight goals or fewer and has held opponents to single-digit scoring in 18 of 19 games this year. The Rock are outscoring their opponents 316-98 through 19 games, including 283-67 over the last 17 games, and outshooting opponents 711-298. The only opponent to reach 10 goals in a game this year was No. 5 West Chester back on Feb. 21 in a 13-12 SRU road win.
Â
NATIONAL OFFENSIVE RANKS
Slippery Rock second among all programs in Division II in shots per game at 37.42 and third in the nation in shots on goal per game at 27.89. The Rock own the No. 10 scoring offense in the country at 16.63 goals per game and rank fifth in the nation in scoring margin at +11.47 goals per game. SRU also ranks 14th nationally in assists per game at 7.74.
Â
NO. 1 DEFENSE IN THE COUNTRY
The Rock rank No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 5.16 goals per game. SRU ranks No. 2 nationally in caused turnovers per game at 15.16 and ranks seventh in ground balls per game at 22.79. Opponents have gone just 56.9 percent on clear attempts this year (195-of-343).
Â
TOP 10 IN THE DRAW CIRCLE
Slippery Rock enters this game ranked seventh in the nation in draw control percentage (65.9%) and 13th in the nation in draw controls per game (15.74).
Shannon Von Kaenel and her PSAC leading 179 draw controls are the primary reason for that as she currently ranks fourth in the nation in draw controls per game at 9.42. She takes nearly all the draws and has helped The Rock to post an 299-155 advantage over opponents through 19 games.
Paige Jenkins has 58 draw controls and
Grace Rotter has 41 draw controls as that trio has 278 of the team's 299 draw wins.
Â

Attacker
Reagan Richeson has a team-high 65 goals this year to mark a new career-high and her second straight season with at least 50 goals.

Isabella Buono (51) reached the 50-goal milestone for the first time in her career this spring.
Abby Fink hit 50 goals in 2025 and is 13 shy of reaching that mark again this spring.
Â
FIVE PLAYERS WITH 50+ POINTS
Slippery Rock's enters the title game with five players that have 50 or more points on the year, including three players with at least 66 points.

Â

Cadyn Eismann has 15 goals and four assists,
Ava Dossier has 10 goals and seven assists,
Shannon Von Kaenel has eight goals and seven assists,
Claire Petty has seven goals and seven assists and
Lauren Petty has seven goals and three assists          to give The Rock a total of 11 players with double-digit points on the year.
Â

Â
The Bears had four All-PSAC honorees this spring with first team defender Summer Davis, second team attacker Katie Yocum, second team midfielder Rowan Hall and second team goalie Marissa Bragg.
