Rock trio accepted to National Championships

Logan Anderson, Drew Layton and Seaton Wozniak were selected to compete in the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Selected Entries for National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – A trio of Slippery Rock University men's track & field standouts will represent The Rock at the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships March 13-14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach.

Slippery Rock will be represented at the National Championships by Logan Anderson in the heptathlon, Drew Layton in the pole vault and Seaton Wozniak in the shot put.

All three of The Rock's entries have previous National Championship competition experience. Layton will be making his fourth overall trip to nationals (2x indoor / 2x outdoor), while Wozniak will be competing in his third championship meet (2x indoor / 1x outdoor) with Anderson making his second trip to the top competition in NCAA Division II (1x indoor / 1x outdoor).

Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event. For each individual event contested, the top 18 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted, and for the heptathlon and pentathlon the top 16 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.

The National Championships are set to begin Friday, March 13 and run through the evening Saturday, March 14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A quick look at each of the SRU accepted entries can be found below. The full meet schedule is available HERE.

While Anderson, Layton and Wozniak prepare for indoor nationals, the rest of SRU's men's and women's track & field rosters now turn their focus to the 2026 outdoor season, which is set to begin March 21 at the California Invitational in California, Pennsylvania.

LOGAN ANDERSON
Event: Heptathlon
First Day: Friday, March 13 – Begins at 10 a.m.
Second Day: Saturday, March 14 – Begins at 11 a.m.

The 2024-25 PSAC Indoor Freshman of the Year, Anderson avoided any sort of sophomore slump as he enters the meet seeded fifth thanks to his season-best effort of 5,323 points which propelled him to a conference title at last week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships. Anderson was named the PSAC Indoor Championship Field MVP after breaking the SRU and all-time PSAC record in the heptathlon with a winning score of 5,298 points (that tally grew to 5,323 points when converted for track size). 2026 will mark Anderson's indoor nationals debut, but he does have previous national championship experience as a qualifier in the decathlon at last year's outdoor national meet, where he finished 13th as a true freshman.

DREW LAYTON
Event: Pole Vault
Finals Date: Friday, March 13 – 3:20 p.m.

Fresh off a second-place finish at the PSAC Championships, Layton will be making his second consecutive appearance at indoor nationals. A three-time All-American overall (2x outdoor / 1x indoor), Layton heads to the national meet seeded 18th with his season-best clearance of 5.10 meters from the Ashland Invitational (Jan. 24). Layton took sixth place at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships with a school-record clearance of 5.24 meters. One of the top pole vaulters in program history, Layton also owns the SRU and all-time PSAC outdoor pole vault record in addition to the SRU indoor record.

SEATON WOZNIAK
Event: Shot Put
Finals Date: Saturday, March 14 – 2:45 p.m.

Wozniak qualified for his second NCAA Indoor Championship competition as the seventh seed in the shot put by way of an 18.40-meter mark at last week's PSAC Championships. In addition to netting him another national championship berth, Wozniak's impressive mark – which came on the very last throw of the competition - resulted in his first PSAC title and broke his own SRU record. Wozniak placed 15th at last year's indoor championships and was also a second team All-America selection at last year's outdoor championships after placing 10th last spring.
