Rock travels to UPJ for crucial PSAC West contest

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team makes the trip to Pitt-Johnstown to close out the first cycle of round robin play in the PSAC West with an important matchup against the Mountain Cats noon Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team makes the trip to Pitt-Johnstown to close out the first cycle of round robin play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division with an important matchup against the Mountain Cats noon Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock and Pitt-Johnstown first played in 1971, resulting in a 5-1 Rock victory. Since then, SRU and UPJ have played 53 times over the past 54 years. Between 1971 and 2012, they faced off once per year almost every season since, but started playing twice a year when Pitt-Johnstown joined the PSAC in 2013. Slippery Rock owns a 43-9-1 record all-time against Pitt-Johnstown and an 18-5-1 record on the road against the Mountain Cats.

Last season, Slippery Rock swept the season series against Pitt-Johnstown with, 2-0 and 2-1, victories. Kaden Reynolds scored two of The Rock's four goals against UPJ, with Patrick Tierney scored a third and SRU grabbing the fourth goal off a UPJ own goal.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock's second half comeback fell short in a, 2-1, loss against No. 24 Gannon University in PSAC West play Wednesday at James Egli Field.

Aashi Pandher scored his first goal of the season off Tom Roantree's first assists of the season and Reynolds' fourth helper of the campaign.

Pandher led both sides with four shots and two on goal, as Reynolds (2) was the only other Rock player to take multiple shots. Dylan Greggs, Zsombor Retfalvi, and Fynn Uebele rounded out Slippery Rock's shot takers with one apiece.

Troy Nine made six saves in goal, hist most stops in the last four games for SRU.

Slippery Rock ended the game with an advantages in saves (6-1), while Gannon ended the contest on top in shots (14-9) and corner kicks (5-2).

A LOOK INTO THE PSAC WEST STANDINGS
Slippery Rock sits in a tie for fifth place in the PSAC West with Pitt-Johnstown as each team has one point after four divisional games played. No. 24 Gannon tops the PSAC West standings with 12 points from four games, followed by Seton Hill University (9), California (Pa.) (6) and Lock Haven (5) in spots two through four.

The top four teams in each division inside the PSAC will qualify for the PSAC Tournament at the end of the regular season.

THE ROCK IN THE DIVISION
In the last six seasons, Slippery Rock has played 54 games against PSAC West opponents (postseason included). The Rock hold a 20-28-6 record during that span with a -20 goal differential (83-103).

LEADING THE ROCK
With six games remaining in the regular season, Reynolds paces The Rock with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Boele Zwartele follows Reynolds with seven points on three goals and one assist, while Jimmy Irani sits at two goals. Ryan Hanes, Caleb Alldredge, Dylan Greggs and Jonathan Anthony each have one goal on the season as well, while Pandher SRU with five assists.

Reynolds also leads SRU in shots with 44 and shots on goal with 19. Pandher follows Reynolds with 33 shots and 16 on goal, while Gabin Lonjard rounds out Slippery Rock's top three shot takers with 11.

Slippery Rock's minutes leader in the field in 2026 is Tierney who has totaled 919 minutes (83.5 mpg).

Nine has played all but 14 minutes in goal so far in 2026 for The Rock. Nine has a 1.57 goals against average along with a .712 save percentage with 42 saves and one clean sheet.

Dylan Bliss has appeared in one game this season, making one save and surrendering no goals in 14 minutes of play.

PITT-JOHNSTOWN SCOUTING REPORT
Th Mountain Cats kicked off their season with a 4-2 win over Chestnut Hill College on the road, but have gone winless in their last nine contests. UPJ is coming into the game off a 1-1 draw with Lock Haven. Pitt-Johnstown is looking for its first home win of the season, as UPJ sits with a 0-4-0 record at home.

Junior forward Noah Pawling leads UPJ in goals (3) and points (7), while Jack Moyer is the only other Pitt-Johnstown player that has multiple goals (2). Seven players for UPJ have recorded one assist this season.

Freshman goalkeeper George Pasko has started seven games this season, making seven starts and holding a 3.38 GAA as well as a .707 save percentage on 53 saves.

LOOKING AHEAD
Slippery Rock stays on the road as it takes on Lock Haven for the final time in the regular season in a matchup 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at Hubert Jack Stadium. Earlier this season, Slippery Rock and Lock Haven tied, 2-2, at James Egli Field.
