FIRST SET OF NPI RANKINGS RELEASED
Slippery Rock sits fourth in the Atlantic Region NCAA Power Index Rankings after the first set of rankings were released Monday.

The NCAA Power Index (NPI) is a rankings system used in Division II and Division III to evaluate team performance. NPI considers game results and the strength of opponents to calculate a team's NPI value and ranking.

NPI calculations update throughout the season as teams play additional contests and opponent NPI values change. A team's final NPI is not determined until the final games and rankings of the season are complete.

The NPI takes place of the NCAA's previous regional rankings system and will determine the at-large teams selected to the championship after the automatic qualifiers have been decided.

For more information on the NCAA Power Index click HERE.

The Division II women's soccer playoff field features 56 teams from across the nation, with each region receiving a pre-determined amount of berths based on access ratio.

The Atlantic Region has seven spots in the NCAA Tournament this season as the conference champions from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and the Mountain East Conference will earn automatic berths in addition to five at-large selections determined by the final NPI rankings.

A look at the top nine teams based on NPI in the Atlantic Region can be seen below.

Seton Hill and Edinboro sit in third and fourth place with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Lock Haven and Indiana University (Pa.) hold a share of the fifth spot in the division with 17 points apiece, The rest of the PSAC West standings sit as follows, Clarion (12), California (Pa.) (6) and Pitt-Johnstown (2).

PSAC TOURNAMENT SPOT AROUND THE CORNER
Slippery Rock is approaching a spot in the PSAC Tournament with five games still remaining. The Rock would clinch a spot in the PSAC Tournament to this with a win against Seton Hill.

The Rock have separated themselves and are out of reach of Clarion, Cal and Pitt-Johnstown, needing just one more team to secure a spot in the conference tournament. As the Griffins are nine points behind SRU with four games remaining on their schedule, a Rock victory would increase their lead to 12 points with three games left, putting Seton hill out of reach and giving Slippery Rock one of the top five spots.

With the win against the Mountain Cats, Slippery Rock claimed its 10th win of the season, giving Slippery Rock's head coach Noreen Herlihy her 18th straight 10-win season at the helm at The Rock. Herlihy has had 10 or more wins in 19 of her 21 seasons overall across both stints at SRU.
