NFCA Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Slippery Rock University softball standout
Alexsa Hurd earned a spot on the 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Team as a first-team utility pitcher, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted for the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2025 NFCA Division II All-America squads. The 2025 NFCA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 21 at the NCAA Division II Championship Banquet in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Â
While this is Hurd's fourth career all-region honor, it's her first time being voted a first-team NFCA All-Region utility pitcher. She was already the only Rock softball player in history to have earned more than two all-region designations in their career.
Â
Hurd capped off an excellent four-year career at SRU by being named the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Year, simultaneously receiving her fourth All-PSAC West honor. She also picked up three PSAC weekly awards throughout the season.
Â
She became the first Rock softball player to earn four consecutive All-PSAC West honors since Jenna Geibel in 2010-13 and the first PSAC West Pitcher of the Year to come from Slippery Rock since Shaylee Ianno in 2011.
Â
Hurd concluded her senior season with a program record-breaking 17-7 record in the circle with one save. She shattered The Rock's single-season strikeouts record with 243 Ks tossed in 161.0 innings, piloting the circle for 18 complete games with one shutout. Hurd logged a 3.13 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. She held PSAC West batters to just a .192 average.
Â
At the plate, Hurd broke Slippery Rock's all-time records in home runs (43), RBI (156), hits (188) and doubles (40). She finished the year with a .292 batting average while slugging .643. Hurd also amassed a .346 on-base percentage. Her 2025 campaign came with 16 home runs, 12 doubles, 48 RBI, 40 runs and 50 hits in as many games.
Â
A native of Suffield, Ohio, Hurd also wrapped up the season ranking fourth in Division II with 10.6 strikeouts per seven innings, one of just seven DII players to have thrown at least 243 strikeouts.
Â
Hurd's 0.32 home runs per game led the PSAC and ranked 14
th in the nation, making her the only NCAA softball player in the country – Divisions I, II and III combined – to average at least one home run every four games while tossing more than 10 strikeouts per game.
Â
Slippery Rock's season came to an end after an impressive PSAC Tournament showing May 2. Following a 16-11 win over Bloomsburg University and a 5-4 upset over No. 18 Kutztown University, The Rock were defeated by No. 11 East Stroudsburg University and Shepherd University.
Â
SRU was the final team to be eliminated before the championship game, putting together perhaps the most impressive season in school history by finishing third in the conference postseason. Hurd's final game in an SRU uniform fittingly featured yet another home run.
